I went on my first (trailer) camping trip last weekend. I have a 2004 2500-nonHD with 3.73 rear end. I went about 120ish miles on Friday evening. The trailer is a jayco hybrid at about 4200lbs. Obviously the truck pulled like a beast with that load. With an additional 2000lbs of people, dog, gear, etc - good times. Used tow haul mode and was able to keep it in OD at 65mph. Probably got 11-12mpg.
The trip home sucked though. The wind blew 40mph with gusts of 50 or so. It was all crosswind. I drove mostly at 50-55mph and it only left third gear to find 2nd. I have sway control and didn't have a lot of sway to deal with, just a constant push to the driver side. I got just under 8mpg on the way home.
Is that just the way it is in the wind- slow down and take it? Anything I could do to make a trip like that better, other than not going?
Yeah wind is a real mother f*cker!
Yep. Nothing you can do, if it's bad enough you need to stop and point into the wind.

Nope, nothing you can do.
Also, super-jealous that your 6.0L got 11-12 MPG. Mine only broke 9MPG going downhill, unloaded.![]()
