Well, I settled on a 2010 chevy 2500hd with the 6.0/6spd auto with 4.10 gears. I got a smokin deal on it and should be A-OK for pulling. Got tired of driving 400+ miles looking at wore out 8.1s.

Should pull quite well with the extra low 1st, and better OD ratio 5th. I would leave it out of 6th (hence the manual mode).

The way I look at it, 4L80E had a really high first gear, 2 moderate non OD gears and a moderate OD.

6L90 has a really low first gear, 3 moderate non OD gears, a conservative OD, and a really high OD.
(4.03 2.36 1.53 1.15 0.85 0.67)

I have the 6L80 in my 2012 ECLB 1500 (5.3L/3.42), it tows much better than my 07 classic with the 4l60E (5.3L/3.73).
