Thanks, yeah I love the truck. I have to get a new windshield for it, before i get it inspected and get tags. I have to replace the cv joints in the front end, but lucky for me the guy gave me two brand new cv joints in the box. The steering box is a little weird, the truck will turn right good and turns left really hard, there is a lot of play in steering while driving. He gave me a another old steering box for it. But it sounds silly but im just worried about getting tags on it until i really start trying to fix the maechanical problems. Its has a 350 with 230000 miles but the motor seems to run good, minus i got gotta adjust the carb which i think it is a edelbrock 1836.

Thanks and true, I just wanna make a bad ass truck, lol. I want t to make a powerhouse that rips throught the woods. That's my goal whatever it takes to make it a reliable 4x4 machine I will do. Just kindaofconfused mainly on what kind of suspension I want, I want the longest travel I can get even if I have to trim the fenders.but how can I do this with leaf springs or do I need to consider long travel coil overs.

A leaf spring set up can work fine on the trail and is as easy as it gets as far as suspension goes. If you dont know squat about trucks then keep it simple. Make sure everything thats on the truck is worki.g good and in good condition. Wheel it then see what you like and dont like then ugrade suspension from there.

Re: New guy with a truck without a clue

Got my battery connections fixed, so now I have great power transferring. Installed a new starter this week, truck startup really good now. Tomorrow my friend is going to help change out my power steering box, because the one on it it's broken and rigged up ghetto. Sometime next month fixing up all my problems in my dana 44 front axle. Then I believe the truck will be trail ready. Then I needbo buy jack, comb a long, spare tire and then she will be ready to test out the trails. It's a long way down the road, but I can't wait till tax returns. Something drastic will change, dont know what it be, but I'm really debating on just building my sbc up.

Or maybe buy a used 14 ff and a Dana 60 and building them up right and maybe put some money to the side to re-do my suspension.

I'm just gonna represent my 1/2 tons axles for a while. I just changed my steering Bo yesterday, I gotta do some welding repair on my frame under the steering box. The next step for the truck is replacing my wheel bearings, which I'll have to wait next month for.

    Welcome!

Looks like you got a GREAT DEAL!
$700 and it runs-not bad-my kind of deal.Body looks very good for?? pushing 30 years old-yeah looks good!
Heck wheels tires are worth $700-tires are really expensive now!
    Where is A, A ??
Alaska Arkansas Alabama (in which case I hate Alabama-like Auburn) Alberta
I see an evergreen in the background- but they are everywhere.

Pretty sure GM Performance makes a drop in carb motor-performance- 290 hp (maybe your original motor was 200 hp??)
for under $3000-aftermarket performance motors are cheaper- but something to be said for GM Performance stuff-usually doesn't break isn't overstressed.Since you seem to be planing middle of nowhere excursions-something to consider.
    Welcome
    Charlie
