14 Bolt FF Swap, Lots Of Pics

I picked up a 14 bolt FF out ouf a 1973 C20 truck for $50 , and I will be putting it in my 2006 Silverado that came stock with disc brakes on the rear. Will it be a problem to run the stock drum rear on the FF or will I jave to swap it to Disc's? I am just trying to keep the cost down. I am going to be doing a gear swap, complete rebuild, and a locker. Thanks!

I'm not sure how the brake system would handle the drums, I think the computer system would have a fit. IMO I go with Disks, just do to the simple fact that they are better.

Yeah, but it is $490 if you want an e-brake, which I do.

    Who uses the e-brake?
I think the computer for the ABS would go crazy with the drums like RnuovZ71 said. That may just be $500 you have to spend. Or, you could get the brackets for like $50 from some of the vendors there on pirate and order rotors & calipers from someone like willwood.

chevytaHOE5674 I figured you would be asking that, Dunno why. I did a ton of searching on here and saw all of your threads about the 8 to 6 conversion on the rear. Geartech HD doesnt sell the hubs anymore. I am going to run adapter made by Motorsport technology on the front end. They have a lifetime warranty. I know a lot of people have problems with adapters, but I havnt seen one person yet that has personally had one fail on them. With the adapter thickness I will be running a different offset wheel to get the tire in the same place, so the load on the bearings/studs will be the same.

As far as the brakes I guess I will just have to bite the bullet. It sucks that the 2006 trucks all came with drums, except for the Hybrid model( which is what I have) Ohh Well!

EDIT: I finally got a hold of Geartech, and they still sell the hubs, I picked them up and they are great!!

My other option is to sell the ff, and buy a SF for 800 and swap my disk brake parts onto that rear, and stay 6 lug. It may end up costing the same possibly. It sucks how much the SF rears cost around here. I wonder if my 10 bolt disk brake parts will fit the 14 bolt SF?

Yes they will with either a spacer or a new backing plate flange.

In some states you need the parking brake for an inspection sticker. Example: the frozen hell hole I live in.

    2008 Silverado 1500 Z71, leveling kit, exhaust, SOLD 9/2014
    2014 Silverado 1500 Z71, stock for now

I am over the fender height, decible limit, headlights are to high, tires stick out to far, no parking brake wont hurt.

    Re: 14 Bolt FF Swap

Well, Good news to those of us that want to run a 14 bolt FF as a 6 lug, Geartech HD still makes the kit. It is $1499 for the complete kit with disc brakes with emergency brakes. This is cheaper that getting a 14 bolt sf and disc brake conversion out here, and also cheaper than going 8 lug all around with the adapters on the front end. I know its kinda pricy, but having the FF is worth it for me. I will take pics and post them when I start tearing into this axle.

Does their kit come with new axle shafts or do you run the stockers not turned down?
