Where is the camshaft position sensor 5.7 vortec

I have a 1996 k2500 with a 5.7 vortec. I need to replace the camshaft position sensor. Where is it located?

It's in the distributor. Are you getting any codes?

There should be a notch in the ring that allows the sensor to be removed.

Why is there a banner ad overtop of the log in spot?

I found the first thread and clicked reply so the log in came up in a different spot. How annoying.

Please explain to us exactly how your complaints contribute to this thread. Somebody has asked for help, not your childish whining about the site.

If we're such an annoyance, you don't have to log-on. Easy fix, eh?

Not sure about a 96 but I have a 97 5.7 and my Cps is bolted to the back of the flywheel under the truck very easy fix. In the distributor is the ignition mod. Better double ck.

That's odd... on my 97 the CPS is in the disty and the ICM is mounted to a heat sink alongside the coil. I thought this is how all the Vortec's are configured, and every service manual or how-to I've seen says that as well.

I dunno bro I'm @ the bar this may be a sloppy txt but the ignition mod is the only mod in the distributor. The ignition coil is what your thinking of I'm srry just trying to help I may be wrong no ones perfect but the Cps sensor is on the balancer under the truck. On my 97
