The hole was a good size. I couldn't scrounge up a bit the exact size, so I reamed it. With the rubber in the hole it was a good fit. Disclaimer: don't read into that last line too much.

Stuffing tires is like stuffing a bra - it may look good from the outside, but there's nothing good to play with.
