If I was doing an ex cab or larger i would prob use 3x4 x 3/16". The only problem I see is right at the front where it needs to slip into the boxed portion of the frame, you would need to trim the inside of the boxed section out to allow the 3x4 to slide far enough into the frame. Not a problem really, but just something to keep in mind.
