I'm told that it doesn't hurt the motor. I've never been brave enough to try it myself, but a lot of engine builders do it on purpose for the horsepower gains. Its easy to do by accident, and if you don't catch it on final inspection the only way to correct it is to tear the motor down. Chevy's no tlikely to do that until someone proves that its damaging the motor.
