i installed a comp/temp mirror tonight on my 99 sierra. i had the harness up in the headliner. i bought the mirror(with 5 inchs of pigtail) and a temp probe(without connector) on ebay. i sodered wires to the temp probe connectors and filled the sucker with glue and installed the probe under the body (it seemed easier and faster). well i took a guess on wiring the sucker up, and after blowing a fuse, i got it working.

when i first started it up, the temp read 86, which seemed pretty accurate. then it went down to 77, then up to 90, then i noticed if i shine a flashlight at it, it either drops down to 58, or jumps of to 112. so yea, it seems like the rear light sensor is affecting my temp reading. i got a midterm tomorrow, so i called it a night on that project, but im hoping its a mixed up wire, and not a bad mirror, or i fried the probe when i sodered it.
