Hi, I am new here. I bought a 05 Tahoe 5.3 about 6 months ago, and I love it. Today I bought a 06 1500 Silverado with a 4.8 extended cab. I gave up a Ford pickup for the new Chevy. The reason I am posting is that the piston slap you are hearing is not going to hurt the engine. I had a 2000 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 OHV engine, and it would make diesel like noise when idling. It was also a piston thing, but the engine ran very well, and I had no problems with it. The Jeep 4.0 inline 6 was a very noisy engine, but would last forever. You have to look at the overall picture of the truck to see how good GM is. I have a Chevy truck that I use for work, and it has 142,00 miles on it, and I like it alot. Enjoy!
