My project: Take Cheap used beat up truck and turn it into "like new" condition for a reliable good looking daily driver truck.
I picked up a cheap 1992 gmc sierra. black on grey.
Interior was BAD.. so this is what i did....
1st added cheap seat cover...
2nd.. Dash renew.... lol
Pulled a dash out of a 93 4x4 (junkyard) Maroon in color... 35$ with all parts.
Bought Krylon FUSION (for plastics) in black. 4 cans 3.99$ each
Removed original dash...
Then i followed the krylon instructions.. NO primer it says.. so i clean with soap and water... then clean with a ammonia based product ( windex) to help dry it up. let it dry overnight. painted 2 coats. and waited over night... painted 2 more coats.. overnight... then installed.
On the last pic with flash you can notice that all Vynl based pieces are Shiny. and dash is a semi-gloss(perfect). But this is where the problem is.. the paint stuck to BOTH.. very well with out chipped or scratching during install.. however the vynl pieces are still "sticky" 3 days later Its obvious that its not settling and drying to the Vynl. but it sure is sticking to it. the down fall? dust sticks to it. So the dash is Freaking sweet. and looks awesome.. however i need to find a remedy for the vynl parts besides fiberglassing. Once i do i will post an update i know theres somthing out there:)
Hope this helps anyone.. I Was more going to getting the truck back to factory conditions instead modding with newer style dashs. but from grey to black the interior is a whole new appearence. along with a 200$ sound system and it's coming along!!
Whatcha think?
