I'm not sure how often you would run into a situation where it would make a large difference stability wise. I have pulled my 5th wheel from Maine to Alaska, and many points in between and never had any issues with my 3500 SRW.

Duals do give a larger carrying capacity, although to look at the "official" stats they dodn't look that different. Compare 4 tires with a 3000lb rating each vs 2 with a 3600lb rating each.

I chose a SWR because I didn't want the hassle of having the extra rear width, and because it's expensive enough to replace 4 tires let alone 6.
