You can use a soap/water mixture, however,it does tend to degrade the clay a little more than usual. Additionally, an appropriate quick detailer or dedicated clay lube like Luber will provide better lubrication for the clay to slide on.
I always recommend either rewashing or using a quick detailer to remove the clay residue after a full claying.
