Re: Garage floor epoxy coating?
Depending on the sealer, Acid etching may not be able to remove it. They usually recommend it is removed by mechanical means ie: sandblasting or grinding. The Quikcrete 2 part epoxy is a better system once you get the sealer off and the floor acid etched / rinsed. If you are careful (read anal) with the application you should be just fine, just mask off any area's you don't want to paint first, this stuff isn't coming off any time soon. The "Low-Odor" they claim is false btw, make sure you have plenty of ventilation, both when etching and applying the epoxy. If you look at the 1 part Quickrete epoxy they sell something called "Bond-Lock" that does the etching, but again I doubt that will eat through the sealer. Take a few minutes and talk to the guys at the paint desk at Lowe's (shameless plug my stock needs to go up ;-) ) and see what they recommend. If I remember I'll ask tomorrow when I go back 2 work. the paint Dept. Mgr reports to me so he better be right. LOL
