Alot of the aftermarket boxes for the chimes do not have a volume control on them and are definitely too loud. What I do for a lot of customers that claim that the chime is too loud is to take a piece of soft foam and zip tie it a round the box so that it covers the speaker opening on it. That usually muffles it enough to make it not so obnoxious.
