Re: The York Thread.
a couple things not covered about Yorks.
First I was an A/C tech from 1980 thru 1999 and did alot of Yorks back in the day. I also did Yorks on big trucks, like Freightliner, Peterbilt etc.
one thing is that if you run the York as your primary source of air for your bags understand that the cylinders in the York need a small amount of oil or they will scorch, heat up the cylinder and then it starts to leak. It also scorches the reed plates in the head and they lose there tensile strength.
If you do the oil mod your cylinders no longer get any oil and you need to an an air tool oiler to the inlet side of the system. get a good adjustable one and turn it all the way down. then get a seperator on the outlet side. It will catch the very small amount of oil coming out plus it catches anything else that leaks by the pistons.
next is the clutch, most aftermerket or new clutches come with small washers. these go between the bearing and the clutch to space it properly. theres about 5 washers in the clutch kit. some are thin and some are thicker. look at the instructions to get the proper spacing for the clutch. too much space and it slips under heavy load and eventually burns up the clutch and sometimes the heat melts the wiring in the magnet.
also using a quality synthetic non detergent motor oil will make the York last longer.
