Re: disc brake swap
Alright I have a little more info on this subject pertaining to the brake lines. The Chevette brake hoses require a 3/8 x 24 fitting which comes standard on your average run of the mill 3/16" brake line. It appears the stock wheel cylinder and T fitting in the stock rear axle brake lines are all 3/8 x 24 fittings as well. Next, if you plan up upgrading to a NBS master cylinder that was intended for a rear disc setup be aware you may run into a difference in brake line fittings there as well. I know mine is different.
The rear line at the master cylinder (actually feeds the front brake circuit) is a 3/16" line with a 1/2 x 20 fitting on the stock OBS master cylinder. The front line (which actually feeds the rear brake circuit) is what I believe to be 9/16 x 18. The NBS master cylinder I have which is for a rear disc and possibly hydroboost setup uses a 1/2 x 20 fitting for both the front and rear brake circuits. Finding a 1/2 x 20 for 1/4" line was going to be nearly impossible, locally that is. Instead I was able to find a 1/2 x 20 fitting for 3/16" line and drill it out and redo the area that reinforces the flare of the line and make it fit a 1/4" brake line. Now I have all the correct fittings to put a NBS master cylinder specifically designed for rear discs on my OBS. Other then that the master cylinders are identical in mounting, push rod length and all. Just thought I would post a heads up on some minor fitting issues that can be run into while doing this.
