my 2000 silverado 5.3 w/ 60k on it make a slight ticking for a second or two at start up, i figured that the knock sensor corrects the problem. i think if the problem gets any worse in the near futture im gonna "decarbonize" it. well i know i didnt offer any info that everyone didnt already know but the little that mine knock doesnt seem to hinder the performance of the engine.
i personally think it was a fault in the gm production but what do i know. all i do know is that before this truck i had always owned fords and will be going back when i get this one paid off.
