In the Transportation section of the Chicago Tribune Newspaper today (Nov 23 2003) it said owners of GM Trucks (SIlverados, Serrias, Yukons and Tohoes) years 1999-2002 with the 4.8, 5.3, and 6 liter engines have complained about the loud knocking noise. GM acknowledge the problem and HAS BOUGHT BACK SOME OF THE VEHICLES!! But GM says it does not affect engine performance and was corrected it latter models. GM also claims this problem surfaced with the switch to new engines. Lemon law lawyers say they have been getting unusally high complaints about this problem. GM officials say carbon and the amount of clearence between the piston and the clyinder wall are the primary causes of the knocking. Current analysis of 150,000 and 300 000 mile engines have exhibited no cold start noise or significant wear. There is some more to the article but that is the important stuff. Just thought I would post this I find this intereisting to see if my truck devolopes this problem and heck maybe some of you guys could get yer truck bought back!! Another thing I found interesting was that the 2 pictuers they showed for this article were a Yukon XL and a Silverado SS standard cab with 6ft bed, thats the first one I have seen like that bought time GM wised up, now they can really compete with the Lightning.
