I have this idea of taking apart a playstation 2 and using the cd drive in my dash and hiding the rest of the unit somewhere else, glovebox maybe. I was thinking of fiberglassing my dash where the stock cd unit went(OBS tahoe, under ac controls). I would make it so all you saw is the front of cd tray with the ps2logo and then I was going to mount the power/reset buttons right next to it on the dash bezel. I would then put the main unit somewhere in the dash, maybe behind the glove box. I would use some plug extensions for the controllers and mount the other ends of the extensions, making plug in's for the controllers, where the cig lighters are under the cup holders. I would take out the lighters and mount the plugs under the flaps. anybody seem something like this before? have any pics? is it hard to take apart a ps2? is what I am thinking feasable?

thanks in advance!

I have taken apart mine to "renew the warranty" and its easy to take apart just a few screws, I dont know how hard your project would be though.

hehe. swap one with the local walmart or something? dude, walmart will take ANYTHING back. haha. hmmm, guess I'm going to have to just break mine open and try not to break anything!

actually I think the hardest part will be mounting and making it look good in the dash. time to play! :hack::weld:

They wont take PS2s that are 4 years old back. So you gotta get a new one and do some swapping and return the "new" one.

if you mess yours up just put it back together and then go buy a new one and put the old one in teh box and take it back, taht works garunteed. As for your idea I have seen xboxes and ps2 put into all kinds of things, the best was a big ass recliner that an xbox had been put into the tray was on one arm rest and there were 2 controller plugs in either side of the chair with the rest inside the chair somewhere so I am assunming if you know how to wire adn sodder then you will be fine.

The problem is, that the bar code is built into the PS2 and they scan it through the box. So when you try and return it they wont take your old one back, you have to take the case off the old one and put it on the new one and the new case on the old one and return it.

check out www.the12volt.com the people there are very knolegeable when it comes to the electrical stuff. there is someone on ther who said something along the lines that the circut board runs on 12v so you don't need one of those AC plugin box things. just check them out and post a few questions.

good luck
