WTF? Peeling dash!

I don't know what brought this on and how to stop it but the vertical portion of my dash (the part that is close to the passenger side door) is beginning to peel. Now I have black spots showing through the grey. Otherwise my dash is perfect. :(

Does anyone know what might have caused this? How to stop it?

A couple of my uncle's 99+ trucks did this, and its usually accounted to using too harsh of chemicals cleaning it.

Ya there is a diffence between paint thinner and degreaser.

Just kidding. I tend to agree with SLMDLT1. Probably using something to harsh for the dye. Try using regular damp cloth to wipe it off and then add your protectant when it dries.

my buddies o3 is doing that and he never claens teh thing, I keep telling him to take it in for warranty work but he is too lazy

The only thing I've been using was the Finish 2001 stuff in the green bottle and I rarely use it.

It shouldn't be sun because it is on the side of the dash and the top is in good condition. I rarely clean the sides anyway because dust doesn't really collect there.

mine was doing it too. but now i have the entire dash out of the truck and an getting it ready for paint.

My 2002 Silverado work truck is doing this aswell.. Right by the grab bar above the glove box, and it never has seen any cleaners, I just use water and a cloth... Chevy is getting crappier and crappier IMO...

My dash has a few of these peeling spots, and I have never used anything but a swiffer duster on it.
