Well last night i finally painted my dash after doing the body work to remove the o-sh!t bar. It came out good, i just need to cut and buff it now. The color is platinum gray off of the VW Jettas.

Would you happen to have pics of how you did this? Looks great!

I dont have many pics of the steps to do this, but it is not too hard. I had a friend of mind do it while i was doing other body work. First you cut out all of the high spots in the dash that you dont want. Then you need to get some material to form into the hole that you made. We used an old bumper off a civic. He used a heat gun to warm up the plastic and bend it to the desired shape. Next he plastic welded the parts together using zip ties and a soldering gun. The driver side patch was made from two parts to get the desired curve. Then sand down the area. Later i fiberglassed the inside of the dash for extra strength. Take extream care while handling the dash as it is very easy to crack the new areas. I cracked it and had to repair it. After that i used body filler to smooth the area, then primed, then painted.

Thanks for the pics. I was thinking of doing the same thing but had planned to use fiberglass and filler only. I might have to look into the plastic welding.

That looks really nice! I like your truck too! Very nice! when u get pics up of how to do that, let me know! That sounds alot better than having to paint the handle and having it crack

You can get plastic welder from Eastwood. You might get better penetration using this system and the correct rods. By doing so you will reduce the chances of cracking. Just a thought.

BTW the dash looks great!!!. Zip ties huh? Interesting.:D

I would absolutly recomend trying a plastic welder to do this. I dont think that i would of been forced to fiberglass the back if i had used one. A soldering iron and zip ties are good for doing little trim items like shaving holes and stuff, but this has a lot more stress on it.

That looks really sweet, but one question: Does it kick back a lot of light from the sun off of the windshield?

Yes, There is a heat gun that will let you heat up the rod and the plastic so that you can fuse the 2 parts together. There are kits at Eastwood that you can buy.
