NOTE: Gimme some honest opinions, ill have some more pics up of the white needles that are on there way as well.

I like it. The glowing needles give it that "Dante's Inferno" quality. Was it easy to do?

Yeah. It was pretty much the same thing as putting a layover gauge face on. Remove the trim around the gauges, air conditioning control and stuff, then remove the 4 screws holding the cluster in, then pull it out. on the back (for my 96 anyway) there are 3 black and 3 grey bulb holders/connectors. I removed all of them and replaced the bulbs with the led's at once. Then i simply put one LED in at a time to make sure they weren't installed with the opposite polarity. Probably took me 20-25 minutes tops because i lost a screw in the air conditioning vent and had to get my extension magnet thing out and go fishing.
where did you get these bulbs, and what kind of price? Also, what kind of gauge overlay is that? thanks in advance.

i got the bulbs from SIK ( www.streetinspiredkustoms.com ) and they have 6 colors i believe. There's 4 led's per "bulb" so the hotspots aren't that bad. The gauge overlay is from US Speedo ( www.usspeedo.com )
The LED's were $30 for all six, and the gauge overlays run $180-$200 Your welcome in advance too

Correct, just the blue leds and clear needles, i dont have that overlay but it is kinda nice. No plans on getting one, those cost too much money imo. I am happy with stock, actually i had an escalade cluster i recently sold so if anything i would but one of those back in :D

6 of the T13-B6 for the instrument cluster
4 of the T1.5 for the a/c-heater
When i was changing the bulbs i pulled the needles off and just scraped the orange paint off them.

Funny you mention it, i was thinking about selling that thing. I got it from Checker auto parts, it covers only the edge of the hood like in my pics. I think it cost me around $30 maybe a little more?

I know exactly what camnut is talking about. I had my needles off and you could tell that you could easly remove the orange look to them.
I didnt do it because I wanted to keep them orange so the Nu-Image flame panel I put in there looked right with the orange needles.
I must say, I really like this look too though.

I looked on the Super Bright Led's web site and I couldnt find those bulbs. Also once you get the plastic dash cover off, how do you get the plastic off of the gauge's, and how hard is it to change out the bulbs. Would you be able to give me a step by step on how to do this install.

s3gulit and Camnut I am really impressed with your work!
I actually logged on to see if I could see some examples of LEDs in the other interior lights ie doors, map lights, and maybe a/c lights.
Anyway, I am concerned that the dash might end up too bright. What do you think of the Single *inverted cone* LED Wedge Base Bulbs vs. the 6-bulb Wedge Based LED Car Bulbs that you used. The light from the single would be diffused, but not as bright.
What do you think? Single or 6 bulbs? I think they make 4s too.
(I would probably use the white style.)
Thanks,
Berry

98cepektahoe, I casually asked a Chevy dealer if the plastic was sold as a unit with the rest of the dash. He said yes it was sold as a unit with the gauge faces... :(
I have just tried the single bulb inverted wedge in my map and door lights. It did not put out half as much light in either place. Now I need to try the 4 and 6 bulb configurations. Does anyone know of any retail outlets that may carry LEDs (in Tulsa)?
Thanks,

Go to a plastic store (like Tap Plastics) or someplace that will cut and works with plastics. They will have a very fine plastic polish (I have some at home and I forget the name but will post it when I find it) that will take out all the fine scratches and hazy look. Used it on my 96 monte carlo and it worked TITS.
It is a very mild clear plastic polish and you cant find it in auto stores. I've looked everywhere. Only in places that work specifically with plastics.

OK I a so confused. I was thinking about doing this LED conversion on my gauges and AC panel, headlight panel, 4x4 panel. I think that I am going to go with green lights (Has anyone seen these lite before), I am looking at the SuperbrightLEDs.com page, and I can't see any bulb named a 194, or a T1.5. Can anyone help. Also what viewing angle did everyone use. What is that for. Would anyone be willing to make a list of what bulbs that I would need to get for this conversion. I drive a 1996 2 Door Tahoe 4x4. This would be very appreciated. Thanks

GoCougs, this is the page the T1.5 are on (i believe i used 4 of them for the a/c cluster) http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR&keywords=&cart_id=9847523.15055&next=50
The reason your not finding the 194 is cause the LEDS are numbered this way.....T13-G6 or WLED-G4 or WLED-G (i used the green leds for example since that is the color you want) Of course the "g" will change if you want a different color. I used 6 of the T13-B6(194) for my instrument cluster which are the blue LEDS.
The 4x4 push button is more difficult, i didnt do this on mine yet but it should take 5 total if you dont have autotrac, 2 of them are when you have the dash lights on and the other 3 would replace the push buttons when you activate them. They all require soldering. I was told the are the 74 bulbs.
I have looked at the headlight switch but i am still not sure which bulb it takes. Again, i was told it takes the 74 blub  This also wasnt as easy as the clusters so i left it alone.
Hope this helped....think i listed the ones you mentioned but there are still more bulbs in the clusters that can be changed, not sure if you want to change all of them? (like the warning lights, etc...)

Thank you so much, I think that I am going to try and do this as soon I get get up to school in Aug. I am thinking that I am going to totally change out my instrument cluster and my AC cluster. I am thinking green because it will match my CD player, match the trucks color, and it will be easy to read at night. All in all, how much should I expect to pay for this set up. Will it be upwords of 100 bucks or less then that. Thanks again Camnut.

Ok I got another question. When you have to pull the needles off to get to the lights, do you pull the stopers off also. My tahoe has stopers on the RPM and MPH, couldnt you just lye the needle on the stopper when the engine is off and you would have the needle in the correct place.
Mitch

08-02-2004, 11:52 AM
Unless your changing the overlay, you shouldnt have to pull off the needles. Take out the 2 screws on each side of the cluster and pull out the bulbs on the back side that have ill next to them.

What is the difference in a 4 bulb light and a 6 bulb light. What works/ looks the best. Also is a T1.5 and a 74 bulb the same. Which one do I need for the Instrument and AC panel.

Here is a pic of the backside of my dash on my 99 Tahoe (It is marked as a 97 C/K Truck). I pulled out a couple of the bulbs. It appears to me that the colors do not indicate a different bulb.
Back of 99 Tahoe Dash (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/berryjr/backofdash.jpg)
I have read different opinions, 1. the bulbs pull out of the the sockets and 2. the bulbs don't pull out of the sockets.
It seemed to me that they would not pull out, but maybe I did not pull hard enough.
The 18 or so bulbs was enough to encourage me to leave my dash alone.
Hope this helps,

Thanks dude, your really helping out. Hey I thought that you had 6's in your tahoe not 4's. Also if you look at the picture that BerryJr. put in his post (its a link (Back Of 99 Tahoe Dash)) they are the really little ones on the lower left. They dont look like they twist but rather pull out.
Also did you do the warning lights, the cluster blinkers, the drvietrain lights, the airbag and seatbelt lights in your cluster.

Camnut,
I LOVE that blue dash!!! I have a '97 Silvy I think I'm going to do the same thing on. Sorry to copy you but you've got something awesome there! :head: My dash should be the exact same as yours, I think. My question is on the A/C hot/cold selector knob, I don't see the red in your pic. Does it not show up anymore, or just can't see it? All you did was scrape your needles to clear and put in the blue LED's? THAT'S IT?? Man...totally sweet!
OH! Also, if you don't mind, I read that thread about removing the needles and putting them back on. Is that really necessary? Is that what you did? I don't see why you can't shut the truck off, pull them off and put them back on the same way. Am I missing something here?

Hey, no problem thats how we get our ideas...hell, i copied another member :D and yes you cannot see the red light up. I dont remember but could you even see it when the factory bulbs were in?
Ya, i just scaped off the orange and then put them back on. I was a dumba$$ and pulled the cluster out before taking them off, there still a little off but not too bad. It seem easy enough to do but i still wish i would have left it be, it really wasnt as easy as it seems
I also took pictures of the needles before i pulled them. If you do it like you stated and keep track of where they are sitting when the engine is off you should be ok, but imo you just cant seem to get them back in the same exact spot.

Yes, I can see the red with the stock set up on the A/C heat/cool selector. Wonder why the blue LED's won't shine through. They seem bright enough... Hmph!

Rock on! Thanks, Camnut! I think I will be doing this here pretty soon! Looks great, dude! I couldn't stop staring at it and getting all excited when I saw it! :head:
Been looking on there and I don't see a T13-B6. The closest I saw was T13-UV6. Some kind of blacklight bulb that could possible be kick butt, too, but I don't wanna risk it. I like what you have. What am I missing here???
