I've done several searches, and haven't found much that is quite like my problem.

Vehicle: '01 Silverado 5.3L ECSB Z71

Neither my dome light or map lights work say 75% of the time. There have been days when both have worked, but lately it has been one or the other. The odd part is that, when I open a door, the underdash lights, door lights, and all come on... sometimes the dome light does, but in general, does not. It appears to be completely random; it has worked in the morning on occassion, other times it's on the way home from work.

From other posts, my only guess could be the BCM (Body Control Module), but I'm curious to know if anybody has had similar problems. I supose it *could* be the dome override switch; however, that does work... when pressed, the other lights (underdash and door) go out.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! :D
Thanks!

TTT

No dome light last night when we went to the gym... however, it worked fine when I hopped in the truck this morning. :dunno: It's not a big deal, but it pisses me off considering I had trouble with the dome light (loose bulb) and reverse lamps (B/U light switch) on my Saturn. I don't think this one is going to be that easy tho. :( I hate electrical gremlins.

Does that model have some sort of timer that delays the light after you walk away after you lock it?

I would also try. The next time the dome does not come on, opening the passenger door and see if that works.

And what if you are sitting inside the vehicle and you turn on the dome light with the switch on the dash or headlight switch? I am not sure where the dome light switch is on that model or if it is still part of the headlight switch but see if they come on with the switch on the dash.

Chris.

It's been 4 years since I bought this truck, and it would seem that I just happened to fix my dome light, map lights, and cargo lamp. We live in the city, so it hasn't been a big issue and I quit actively searching for a fix years ago.

One of my coworkers picked up an '05 Sierra Z71, with my help of course, and we had done some research to figure out how to hook up a brake controller. I never poked around in that particular box (near the parking brake pedal), but curiosity got the best of me, and I took a peak. One connector didn't look seated all the way, and, once I pushed on it, it had a positive click as it seated. It was a bright sunny day, so I didn't notice the dome light come on, but all the lights have worked consistently since then. We'll see! My cargo lamp has NEVER worked though, and does now; a pretty good sign.
