I finally finished my console, looks pretty good for my first interior project I think, though I might have to revinyl it because there are a couple bubbles that are being a PITA to get rid of. I have probably 50 hours into this thing... :scared: Also, pics of my new (to me) leather seats are in :bowtie: The bowties and trim plates around the CB/switches are translucent green plexi and I have green neons mounted inside so when the doors open up instead of normal interior lights coming on everything in the console and a neon on each side under the dash lights up.
The construction was pretty simple, with a dowel frame of what I wanted, then fiberglass, bondo, and vinyl.
Oh yea, the drivers side looks a little better because I matched the contour of the dash down, whereas I was a little off on the passengers side, but whatever, I'm still happy with it.
Hopefully pics work now...

Looks great! Its hard to tell from the pics - does the vinyl work extend all the way to the back/rear of the console?

Nice job!! :rocking: The only thing I see (and it may be just the pics) is that the angle between the two seems kind of sharp.
These pics have got my wheels spinning now!! :D

You say this was your first time with an interior project, was it the first time with fiberglass?

holy shit man thats pretty much EXACTLY what ive been planning on doing for months(would have started last week but hurricane ivan put a damper on that). the only difference is mines gonna have some different electronic goodies and mines gonna be texture painted. ive got a question for you though; how did you attatch that trim piece to the console that holds the cb?

Ok, answering questions in order... I think...
BTW, those are my buddies cars in the background, my garage sorta ends up being everyone's shop in the summer they all bring their junk over to work on it. The blue talon me and my buddy did all the body work/paint on, so even though its rice I have a little personal blood and sweat invested in it. The T/A is my other friends and I don't like the wing either, but I finally got him to order and install a set of Hooker ceramic coated longtubes so I think he's getting on the right track.
The vinyl is some stuff I found at a fabric store that matches the color of the interior almost perfectly and the grain too, so I used that to cover the whole thing. What I did was basically take the entire console apart, you can take the back off then covered it with one layer on each side, so there is a small seam running up the middle but most of that is covered so you don't notice it unless you look.
It isn't exactly my first interior project, I made this sub box and amp rack last summer, but its the first one I've used vinyl on. We also started doing my friends door panels as described in the sticky on painting interior parts at the top but we haven't finished those. I'm going to recover both with vinyl as the carpet thats on there right now doesn't quite match the carpet in the truck.
Finally, I just used some tan velcro to attach the top plate to the console. The idea being that I can make various different front plates should I ever want to switch around the location or type of switches and electronics without having to redo the whole front of the console. Its just a thin piece of wood with the plastic inlays and wrapped with the same vinyl.

That ir really cool and I am thinking that I should have spent more time and maybe used my original center console for mine... I salute you. But what you doing about your cigarette lighters?

How did you attach the plexi to it?

Hot glue :) Cigarette lighters I never really use cause I hardwire everything, and I don't smoke so... you can still get at them from the back if you have small hands too so not that big a deal.
