Hi Everyone,
A have a quick question regarding the stock radio in my 93 silverado. It has the "divorced" radio and tape cassette. Neither work (checked fuse and wiring) the radio just stopped working so I want to replace this. When I buy a new head unit will it fit where the current radio is (mixed in with heater controls) and is there a plate that I can buy to hide the hole that the cassette player will leave. I am sure when I go to buy the head unit the sales rep will be able to tell me these thing but I don't want him selling me thing I don't need so I wanted to ask you guys first. Any help would be appreciated.

the new radio goes in the slot in the center of the dash (w/ an adapter) there are radio delete kits to put a "cubby" hole where the one above the hvac controls are.

Thanks bthomas454 for the info. I was already on the wrong track (assuming the new radio would go where the old one was). Thanks again.

My 88 is done that way. With an aftermarket unit in the center and a storage slot above the A/C. i did it because it was easy. in retrospect, i think i would have placed a changer behind the seat and kept the stock radio. one reason being, im not much for aftermarket items. i like plain stock trucks (exciting, i know). the other being ergonomics. its kind of a pain to reach over to change the station/discs (it came with a remote which i have already lost).
its up to you. any shop will have the storage pocket and the mounting plate for a new unit. mine came as a single piece, the center dash piece including vent cutouts and radio mount.

if you don't wanna go with a cubby hole up top and wanna go a little bit on the wild side, throw a tv up there or an air vent...i'm going with a tv above the cd player and relocating the air vent.

Your suggestion sounds pretty good and was something the guys over at the audio shop were mentioning as well. I think I will definately look into that.
Thanks again everyone.

You can see what the head unit adaptor and radio pocket look like in this picture (http://bingweb.binghamton.edu/~jdevona0/vehicles/pix/interior.jpg). If you go that route I would definitely recommend trying to come up with a different use for the old radio location as the replacement pocket has proved pretty useless to me (stuff slides out on the slightest acceleration)

The reach is kind of a pain, so I got a head unit and the remote. I put some velcro in the cubby hole, and that's where the remote goes. I haven't lost it yet (knock on wood.)

Thanks for the link anoved. It is crystal clear now. I agree with you guys, the radio seems to be in an awkward spot but I guess I'll have to get used to it.
Thanks again

I was also wondering how an aftermarket head unit would fit in there. I think I'm gonna just go with cd changer.... because I like the location of the factory one and the numbers are easy to read...
