Well.. I finally got my Blue LED's in my dash. I must say that was very easy. The 6 Illumination bulbs came right out of the stock sockets with no hassle. I dont see what everyone was talking about when they said there was Solder to be scrapped off or something.. my bulbs came right out.. put new LEDs in.. whole project from Start to finish, from Dash out.. to dash in, took probably 15 min. Anyway.. here is some pics for those of you who are interested in doing it.

Sweet and the lighting looks very even as well. I'll have to throw some red LED's into my gauge cluster one of these days.

It was soo damn easy.. I couldnt believe how easy and fast it went. I bought the LED's off ebay.. like 2 bulbs for a buck I think... The total for 8 bulbs.. even though it takes 6 to do it... I ordered 2 extra.. and 2 of them ended up not working.. but for 8 of them with shipping it was like 8.75 or something. The LED's have 4 little bulbs per bulb... Its very even and suttle..... Anyway.. thought you all might enjoy seein it.

where did you get them from? what part number or whatever were they? are they the same lights for all the 88-98 gauges? THANKS!!

01-15-2005, 12:35 AM
Yeah, what seller did you get them from? Also, does the dimming switch still work w/ the LED's? Not that I use it, but just curious.

Yeah I'd like to know who the seller was also....looks great! I have blue LED's in my Camaro, but I did it the hard way....soldered them all in with resistors myself.

The only down side to this is the dimmer doesnt work with these LED's.. Which I didnt use mine anyway.. but... The seller I got them from is warden_jp2002. They are just bulb replacement #194. It takes 6 of them to do your dash... Thats just the Illum. On the back of your cluster there is 6 sockets that have Illum. beside them.. those are the ones you wanna change. Like I said.. I ordered a couple extra just in case some were bad since they were cheaper... which 2 of the ones I bought were.. but the others work great!!!! Ask any other questions you need answsered.. I will sure try to answer them. :)

I should have said might be a way.Are the leds exposed or are they covered under a dome?

I love that, I'm going with blue LEDs in my dash as well, and was really hoping someone would get pics up and a few helpful directions, and boom, there they are. Very nice work.
Is it the same process for the headlight switch and air controls?? Do you have a stock gauge cluster or white face?? And where can I get some of the euro-white needles, when I get mine blue, the orange has to go.
By the way, is it the same replacement bulb, #194 that is used in all the interior lights, such as the doors, reading lights, etc...?? Thanks

I would like to do red leds in my 92'.
Is it just plug and pray or what? Do you have to solder the leads on the leds to the bulb holder thing? for lack of a better term....
Just asking cause I know when I change the bulbs in my friends Ford, you had to take the bulb holder out and then take the bulb out.
ksstang
01-15-2005, 10:02 PM
in mine.. there was no soldering no nothing.. just pull the dash out... and there is little sockets that turn out of the cluster.. they are labled Illum... turn those out.. and then pull the bulb out of the socket and twist back in cluster. There is two spots on mine that are slightly brighter than the others.. but nothing I cant live without... Its not too noticeable. The bulb numbers are 194's. I belive I read somewhere you can do the a/c controls and the headlight switch and stuff... but I believe those are soldered in and take alittle more work. I might eventually dig further into those.... but... It was pretty simple.. and definitely looks better than stock. My gauge background is still the stock color.. I pondered the thought of white faces... but left it stock.. I like it, cause during the day looks totally stock, and night time hits.. and walla... blue gauges :) Good luck to anyone doin it!

Those look good, but i like my stock teal-ish green escalade glow, and it matches my pioneer cd player just right with no hotspots:D
ksstang
01-16-2005, 10:35 AM
I also thought about one of those escalade clusters... but I couldnt find them anywhere... nor did I know how much I would have to spend. Maybe someday I guess.

01-16-2005, 04:20 PM
also, on the areas with the hotspots, you could put a little window tint on the bulbs close to the, that shoul even those out!
ksstang
01-17-2005, 10:17 AM
I might give that a try sometime.. those two little hot spots really arnt too noticeable though. How would I go about doing white needles?

Take off the needles and use a sharp razor blade and scrape the orange off. If you want you can always paint them white too.

Im thinking about doing red led's in my 2003 GMC and was wondering if there was any way you can still use your dimmer control or is that out of the picture once the Led's are in? Also does anyone know how many led's it would take to do everything in the dash.

see.. mine didnt have any solder points I dont think. I was just able to turn the little black bulb sockets out of the back of the cluster, pulled the stock bulbs right out of those black sockets.. put my LED's in, and I was good to go. Sorry I cannot help.

go to autozone, and pick up 8 sockets, for like $4.00, and add your 194's to them
by the way, I have 9 super white 5 led 194's for sale if someone needs them, work great with the nu image overlays... $35.00 shipped
Refractor LED Bulbs
These are not your average replacement bulbs! Velocity LED Super Refractor bulbs have 1 wide angle forward firing LED and 4 firing around the sides, this fills out the lens much better than any other replacement led bulb on the market.

no hot spots with these, they fill the area real nice...I decided on not using the Nu-Image overlay, and go with the blue bulbs in a silver overlay...I'll be getting the same ones in blue

dang what all colors do they make those multi leds come in?
i wanna replace my front parking lights with that type of style leds and corner lights as well...
and with the sockets mine in my 95 where also soldered... to much of a hassle to break the solder joints so i just went to autozone and bought the new sockets and pluged my leds into them. im still trying to decide if i wanna keep my green leds or use the overlay i bought..... i should get the new transformer for it next week. so ill see how it looks before i deside to pull the leds or not and i do wanna clean the needles next but im just to lazy! LOL i know im horible!
those are the best pics i can get with my camera of my green leds. tho the hot spots arent as bad as the camcorder picks up!!!!!!!!
its realy not to bad at all.

Outragis are yours just white like stock kinda or are they hyperwhite or what. Also is that enough bulbs for entire dash on my 98?
outragis
01-26-2005, 06:04 PM
there hyper white...enough for the cluster, plus 1 spare!
these look great, when you clear the stock needles!
or if you use a sharpie marker to color the needles what ever color you want!

i cannt remember what type i used. i hink they had flat heads on them.....
tho the hot spots realy arent that bad....... trust me! they are preaty decent if you just look at them. i used the night shot for the 2 pictures so it captures more light. the first picture is just regular picture. but the hot spots are realy verly noticable in real life. but still for a cheap $20modd it cannt be beaten in under 20 min!
