The dash in my 95 has broken mounts up in the defroster vent, and if i hit a bump or rock good enough it will slap against the firewall... any remedies for this short of getting a new dash?

View Full Version : securing 95-98 dash? BadxBowtie 01-20-2005, 07:38 PM The dash in my 95 has broken mounts up in the defroster vent, and if i hit a bump or rock good enough it will slap against the firewall... any remedies for this short of getting a new dash? thanks oldred95 01-20-2005, 07:55 PM This is a very common problem on our trucks. My solution is to make a 3x3 inch piece of wood that will fit over the recessed spot where the screw is plus the surrounding plastic that way it has some meat to hang on to and releaves the stress on the plastic right around the screw head. The 3x3 piece of wood with have another piece that fits in the recessed part glued to it and this will hold the dash down. This is just my idea, I haven't actually started it yet. Once I get my wood shop project done I will get right on this and post pics but it will probably be another couple months. LOWGREEN1 01-20-2005, 08:29 PM I called almost every billet company out there trying to see if anybody makes a cover for the vent. They all said there is not enough demand for one. BS!!!! I think almost everbody that has this type of dash, has a broke dash. My whole vent is just busted all to hell. I am going to get a new dash and paint it but while I have it out I think I'm going to make my own aluminum vent cover. oldred95 01-20-2005, 08:59 PM I called almost every billet company out there trying to see if anybody makes a cover for the vent. Cut out the plastic vent and make a super strong aluminum one to put it its place. I wouldn't hurt a thing you would could put some other type of fastners on each side of the dash to keep that held down good to. Ckresto have almost all the dash pieces in billet except for the cover. I wonder what it would take to make a aluminum dash cover if you could get a fiberglass pattern of the dash? LOWGREEN1 01-20-2005, 09:26 PM I have an idea how to make one. I might try it this weekend. If it's nice outside. LOWGREEN1 01-20-2005, 09:32 PM I emailed these guys about making one for a fullsize. That's good to know because I almost mentioned this site in my email to him. I was going to tell him there are a couple guys interested in a defroster vent cover on FSC if he could build them. HAHA.. That would have sealed the deal right there.. :aniteef: dapolice1 01-22-2005, 02:46 AM Who makes this because I totaly missed that one.
