If you are in Florida and interested in travelling to the Okeechobee area there's a nice sized mudhole there that is available every 3rd Friday of the month. They also occassionally have concerts such as the upcoming David Allen Coe on March 19th. Admission varies but will be $25/person for the Fri/Sat/Sun weekend, (18th-20th 3pm Fri- Sundown Sunday) They provide a spot to hose off, outdoor showers and bathrooms. So check it out!

Been on vacation to Stuart florida the past 3 years but wont be going there this year due to a fight with the buddy we stayed with those years. We passed the site you talk of for the mud bog festival. We did a wild bore hunt about a half hour from there and the guys we went out with said they have been to that mud festival and they said its one hell of a good time. The week we were there wasnt the correct weekend so we missed out. Maybe one day i'll get to check it out if i make it there at the right time. If you and your truck get the chance to go people do it!

From FGCU in Ft Myers, just off the Alico Rd exit, it took us about an hour and 40 mins to get there including a pit stop for brew. The drive goes by pretty fast especially if you sleep while your buddy drives.
Talking to the people that were there the past weekend, a lot of them were from the East coast. I don't know how strong the West coast presence is there. Estimates ranged to about 800 people and we did not witness a fight while we were there.
The land is becoming increasingly dry and the fire hazzard has grown. On "the range" from 0 to 800 with 800 being a desert, it was approx. 530. A local firefighter said it could be in the 700s for the March event without significant rain. While this may seem irrelevant, while we were there we witnessed a palm tree catch on fire and after it was "put out" it still managed to spread to a neighboring tree and brush bringing with it a small firetruck to extinguish it for good. Campers take caution and be responsible with your fires.

Are talking about that place off old 41 that everyone calls the sand dunes. If you are i been there once before back in like october. All i could find was sand and little ponds with hard sand bottoms so now mud. Hoepfully this rain will make everything a little more muddy. I was out in the yukapan in the cape last weekend and even that was almost dry.

na i go there a lot but since i have 2wd its hard for me out there but theres a bunch of trails out there. right now i got to a place in naples were if your coming from 41 you take a turn onto immokalee rd and then drive down till you get to collier boulevard and immokallee then turn left down a dirt road and follow it out for about 2 miles. theres a bunch of good places to camp and have fires out there. Theres a big lake out there thats all dried up right now mostly and has just mud sitting in it. good spot to do donuts and crap its pretty fun but there are a lot of people out there cause cant go to badluck anymore.

that mud looks a little to deep for my truck...any nice trails out there?
PurpleLT1
03-22-2005, 10:06 AM
Theres some trails and theres smaller mud holes that arent nearly as deep. Those pics are in the main mud hole where pretty much any truck that didnt have over a 40in tire was getting stuck... except for mine. Dont know why but my chevy handles it well. There were truck alot bigger than me gettign stuck and i was creeping on by. Anyways theres an event out there every month and actually i just got back form there again this weekend except this month there was a david alan coe concert so there was like 25,000 people and the traffic sucked. It took 45min to drive from camp to the mudhole. The only good part of there being more people is there being tittys flashing lol. It happens every 3rd weekend of the month so the next one will be april 15-17. Ill be out there again most likely so look for me if you go.

one more question, I may be 4x4 but right now Ive got 22's on the truck with street tires. you think they'd be able to handle the trails or do I need to bolt the stocker rims back on for the event???
PurpleLT1
03-22-2005, 10:12 PM
If the stockers are somwhat of a cheap all-terain turck tire than those but if there like an economy style light truck tire i dotn think it would make a differece. I mean theres some stock 2wd trucks playing around there in the light mud so you should have fun in what ever you think your good to go in out there.

Ive taken my truck out there a few times with my 33 inch Baja Claws and only got stuck a couple of times. It was going through most of the stuff pretty good. I am putting on my new 35" Baja Claws and 14 bolt locker in the next 2-3 weeks and I'll be going back out to see what it can do now.

I'm glad we've had the opportunity to inform you guys about L-Cross. It has been a lot of fun the last two times we have gone. Always lots of mud, beer, titties, and music. Last time did bring quite the crowd with David Allen Coe's performance.
Hope y'all can get out there April 15th-17th. I don't believe there is a concert this time so it should be a more intimate environment with only a couple thousand people. That means easier and faster access to the mud and plenty of great camping spots.

Last time due to the concert, all they were offering were $25 passes (bracelets) for the whole weekend regardless if you got there Friday morning or Sunday morning and it's good 'till sundown on Sunday. In the past they had offered a $15 one day pass which is what we got the first time because we only planned on a day and we got there at about 11am Saturday. That time they actually said it was alright to stay over night as long as we were out by 10am Sunday or we will get charged the extra $10 if we stay.
Well, the plan was to leave Sunday morning, but Ross (PurpleLT1) had a little problem Saturday evening when his starter sh*t the bed. So after pulling the truck back to the site and replacing it Sunday morning we didn't get out 'till about 12:30 Sunday and they had no problem with that after we had explained what had happened. And yes, the gate is open all day and into the evening although I don't know quite how late.

I am from central Florida (Polk City) originally which is a place that I never had trouble finding a place to go muddin but do to my military career it takes me to places that Mudholes are far and few. There is the Polk City Mudhole which is really a Rednecks heaven on earth. It has a Motor Speedway (circle, cement), Drag Strip, Mudhole, and a Go Cart racetrack all rolled into one area. Told you it was a rednecks heaven. It is located 1/4 mile off of I-4 at the Lakeland-Polk City Exit. There is also Bubba's Mud Ranch located off of Hwy 22 in Auburndale. Which is maybe only 10-15 miles away from the other one. It is only a Saturday night and Sunday type deal but it has mud and coolers are aloud.

Its every 3rd weekend of the month. And its not every month they have a concert. Sometimes they just open for the mud and for the saturdaynight entertainment they have kareokee sometimes.

It is a every weekend deal. Like the i cross they occasionally have cancerts, wet t-shirt cantests or something. The last time I was there they had incorporated an area for 4x4 Tug-o-War. I could only watch it for a little while. I am not a rich man and I dont own a junkyard so watching these guys burn the hell out of 44" rubbers and hearing the snap of driveline parts really made me shake. By the way Rebelbowtie, you are right. It is better known as the Lakeland Mudhole/Dragstrip/racetrack.

sorry it takes so damn long for me to reply. Net time dont come often here in Iraq. If you run through it before the guys with the big tires get in there and tear it all up you may have a slim chance.

if you still want to know about the lakeland mudhole, all you have to do is get you a copy of "TRUCKS GONE WILD". Almost all of the filming is done there. Lots of new events since they kicked out that DVD.
