The console on my 02' escalade is peeling badly on the sides.

It looks like the grey paint is just flaking off around the entire console.

I also have some bubbling on the dash near the glovebox.

The dealer says it is my problem and not covered under warranty because it is due to the cleaning agent used on the console.

Is this right? I am the second owner, so I don't know what the last guy used to clean it, but I have never had any problems like this before in any of my other GM cars and truck.

Any suggestions on how to get this repaired under warranty?

Thanks,

Mike

i think your best bet would be to try another dealer.

yeah i would look at another dealer doesn't matter what you put on it it should do it, especially if you used only armor all. just let them know that.

They are not painted from the factory, The color should be all the way through the plastic. Did someone change the console for some reason?

Thanks for the info.

I think that was my last trip to that dealership (they screwed up a simple fluids change as well).

I stand corrected on the color, as I was peeling some of it off today and it is the same color underneath.

You should probably contact the Cadillac Zone office.

Our dealership warranty's those. Just gotta find someone willing to work with you. It may have something to do with the chemicals. But it's a common problem among all the NBS painted dashes.

Yeah man those NBS dashes suck, our 02 work truck is peeling like crazy! And I never use nothing but a wet wash cloth then shoot it with some armor all. I also looked at a 2002 Tahoe the other day and the dash and console was peeling REALLY bad, like right above the radio they must have rested there hand there hit the buttoms with there thumb.... I hope the next line of trucks don't do it aswell. The OBS dash, was built good. Press against it, and then do it on a NBS... Big difference.

Personally, I'd avoid Armor-All like the plague. I'd heard the rumors about it cracking dashes and such, but decided to apply it to my 96 Ranger anyway figuring that dashes were now better (truck was new at time) and/or that the Armor-All folks had fixed whatever issue with their formula was causing this. A week later the panel above the glove box (that housed the passenger air bag in later models) cracked. Fortunately the part was warranteed.

There's no reason to use Armor-All IMHO, it looks like hell, and a damp towel works just as well for improving the appearance of a dash.

The paint on NBS dashes is a bit thin, and from what I've seen Denalis & Escalades are worse. The "metal look" interior paint on Denalis is notorious for getting tweaked.

yah, on NBS dashes, use nothing but water and a rag. Actually a damp rag is all you should need. My dash still looks like new with no chemicals ever put on it. I did put a tiny scratch on it from installing some LED's but thats it. It scratched fairly easily too. So stay away from any chemicals on your dash. Armorall is good for rubber type materials, but these NBS dashes are straight up painted. Unless you have to have that shiny look.
