For those of you that have painted interior pieces on new body trucks...
1) What type of prepping is involved?
2) What pieces did you paint?
3) How much did it cost, or was it DIY?
4) How do you like the results?
5) Most trucks I have seen this done to are bright colors...How would Charcoal Gray look? Or is there an accent color that might look good?
6) And of course...Got pics?
Thanks everyone:D :rocking:

1. Scuffing & degreasing...smoothing if you want it that way.
2. Dash, cluster overlay and other misc.
3. DIY
4. Awsome, would do it again in a heartbeat.
5. **cough** red **cough**:D
6. Click my sig., I think there is one in there. Not a new bodystyle, but you get the idea.

LOL hey C you say it was DIY, where did you get the paint? I have some charcoal gray duplicolor in a spray can, and when I tryed to spray my bowtie it ran all over like a mofo and had bubbles and sh!t. Other than that the color matched pretty good. I ended up using some engine paint (black) that stuck really well and looked aight.
Do you have to prime it? I've been wanting to do this same thing to my dash bezel, and bowtie. What grit sand paper to get it smooth? Do you put a clear coat on too? Give us some instructions you :assclown:
hey btw ptown how did you colormatch your bowtie? it looks good.
The red on my gauge overlay was done w/ 2 stage auto paint only cause I had some left over. The different color greys were done w/ an interior paint. ( I forget the name) However, I know people who have used the Duplicolor stuff and it came out great. As far a scuffing you can use sandpaper of your choise or just Scotchbrite...the key is a good degreasing afterwards.:read: The plastic holds alot of oils among Armor All and other things.
As for primer...I did'nt use any on the interior. (the spray can said not too.) For the plastic in the engine compartment I used epoxy primer.
Prep/clean is the "key"!:D

Cool, thanks for the instructions, I'm going to try a bowtie that I have leftover...and see how it turns out.

So far I have painted the vent trim rings, the door switch panels, and the dash bezel. All of them were sanded smooth (to get rid of that molded in texture), primed, and then wet sanded. The reason I used primer was to fill in the minute scratches left by sanding - the wet sand step leaves a glass smooth surface.
I used Krylon paint, called Hammer - its supposed to simulate the hammertone finish you might find on toolboxes or industrial equipment. Looks real cool in person, the camera cant accuratly capture the "texture" of the paint. Also in the pic my interior looks blusih, its really the dark grey color.

1.Sand down completly(sand until you get to the blac plastic under the dye or you'll have problems like me). We used Highbuild(thick epoxy primer) to smooth it out.
2. Whole dash.
3.$3004. Once it's redone, will be bad ass and I'll be verry happy.
5. Yamaha Racing Blue(sooner or later whole truck will be the same color).
6. Will have some when it's done.

Ok, thanks for the help everybody. I haven't decided what color to do yet, but when I do, I'll try it out.:head:
