Im getting an 6.5'' indash h/u however it does not play dvds. So, I will have to get a seperate dvd player to play dvds.

So I was wondering if anyone has done a mod like this or has made a console in an obs truck. Id like make a fiberglass console and have it hold my dvd player, and have a cup holder and maybe a cubby hole and maybe a place to put an xbox or ps2 or something like that ya know. Pics would be great :)

Also, how would I make the mold for the console? Like I know how people make fglass sub enclosures. They make the mounting ring and then spread the fabric over it. Well, I dont have a mounting ring to spread over, so what do I use to spread the fabric over to make my shape?
I want to be rounded off on the sides, like an upside down U cept of course wider.

I also need to find some bucket seats somewhere. But any help on this would be appreciated :)

first off, x cab or reg?

are yoiu looking to do fiberglass just cause you want to paint it? any main reason other then that for fiberglassing?

if not, then make the console from mdf, then fiberglass over it for paint

if you just want fiberglass, then your "mounting rings" are going to be pretty much you making the frame of the console, making some supports from one side to the other making the spots where the cup holders will go as well as where the player will mount

then you can cover it and glass it

if its a xcab, im just going to mount my dvd/vcr under the rear seat being held to the bottom by some support straps covered with foam

if your reg, mount it under the front seat in the middle.

if your just getting a dvd player, think about the glove box

ya if ya want to glass it for curves then just build a frame basicaly just like a fiberglass encloser. all the same technics pertain just slightly different styles...

like build a frame for the side thats like 2inches down and then go inward like a inch or two and a inch or two higher.... that way when ya stretch the cloth over it you do get like a arche motion.

but when i do mine im just gonna cover it in cloth and be done with it outta MDF!!!!!

wrap it all the way around the consol and then just build a top piece to go over the corners for a smooth fabric corner.
im gonna EVENTUALY make mine with my Xbox, cd changer, 2 channel amp inside the console and also a flip over cover like in the original console to put my gun in thier for quick access IF I DO NEED IT! ;)
then of course still a lockable door so i can lock up my important things!
i dont know why the **** the consoles dont have locks on them now! :(

I have a reg cab and the only reason why I wanted to do fiberglass is so that it would mold to my floor and to my dash and look seamless. MDF just looks blocky to me and not very streamline.

I forgot about the glove box, and that really isnt a bad idea. But I just kinda wanted everything in reach. Cause I was going to get a dvd player that plays mp3s too cause my indash doesnt and pratically all of my CDs that I burn are in mp3 format.

Plus I dont have bucket seats and although I say I can get some, Im not holding my breath on it. So, if the bucket seat install falls through I need a Plan B.
And I reckon all that would be is just a small little console up against the dash. For that I know kinda how to go about it but Im sure I could figure it out.

well you can do a combination mdf and glass......... ;)

cut out the sides in mdf and cut them with any kind of curve ya want! then glass across the top to match the curve ;)
thiers realy so many ways to go about it! let your imagination run wild!
cuting up some mdf for a desent shape that you can look at is cheap enough with some pieces of 1/4inch mdf

just go crazy!
id love to do mine mounted down low and then from the back have like a fin coming up and going forwards for the arm rest :D
ive seen some before that look downright SICK!!!!!!!! only thing i hate is all that sanding and glassing :(

Its a half din DVD/VCD/SVCD/MP3/CD/CDR/CDRW player :D

...

Damn.....I forgot all about my freakin stock radio hole. Nothing is there...
I could put a dvd player there if its wide enough.

I hate comming up with ideas and then realizing something else thats easier than what your original plan was.
Thanks for all the help and advice!! :D

dang that thing is preaty dam small!
but anything with a remote control you could put anywhere and as long as you got the remote control to point in the direction of the player your golden!

another idea..... do some dash customizing kinda like me.......
cut open the slave cd location alittle more, mold the dash around a trim ring and stick the dvd player right thier!
or even beter... that thing says it comes with a remote eye sensor! mount the dang player under your seat and simply run the remote eye sensor up and behind your AC vents in the dash for a stealth but fully open view for your remote control! allowing you full access to your player and also hidding it cause it does kinda look like crap if ya mount it on/in the dash.LOL hide that sucker and let the remote control be the only thing visable!

Awesome, this is giving me alot of ideas.

My only concern is mounting it some place where I have to take my eye off the road. Like under my seat for instance Id have to bend down to put in a cd and take one out and I dont like taking my eye off the road like that. I do enough searching for cds as it is right now and thats another thing Im trying to solve. Keeping everything in reach and streamline.

come on now.... your talken about mp3 player and worring about changen cds that you can fit like 8 reg cds onto one cd.LOL

plus just use one hand if you gotta. or under the middle or passenger seat so he or she ;) can change the cd in it :D

Well true........

Im more of the type that likes to see everything. I like eye candy :)
I cant put it in my stock radio hole cause its too narrow and too shallow.
So, I think Plan A would be to make a small console about 10'' tall and 12'' long. That way I can put my dvd player there and people still have leg room in my truck so I can ride 2 peeps not including my self.

But damn that thing is so small its almost pointless to make a console just for that....
Really wish it would fit in my stock radio hole...

And it does have that remote eye sensor so I could put the dvd player anywhere really.
To put it under the seat all you do is build a little box for it to sit in and just sit it under the seat. I could put it on the hump and up against my seat. That sounds alot better to me than under the seat and then mount the sensor in the A/C vents or somewhere.
Cant wait to start on this!!

:word: the 1/2 din would be cool or putting one in the slave pocket/stock cd player hole.

If only it was like 5'' wide and 6'' deep......
I measured and I would have to chop the dash up some...or mount the damn thing crooked lol
