i was painting a plastic piece this weekend and used just rattle spray paint for plastic, I primed and then put about 5 coats of my color paint on and i wanted to follow with a clear coat...
I've painted plastic things with a good rattle can product ie..duplicolor or dupont.. many many times with proffesional looking results however this time i wanted to use a clear coat for a really deep shine, but i have never cleared before, and didn't think it would be any different than painting.
So i used about 3-4 coats of clear but it came out hazy looking.........i'm baffled on what i did wrong......i didn't get the desired deep look, instead i ruined a days worth of painting...i know i can wetsand or repaint ect.....but what did i do wrong, why did it come out hazy looking and not glassy?

ya put it on to quick! and it didnt have time to dry.
youll have to repaint it all over again :(
sucks i know. learn from your mistakes. go watch tv between clear coat coats and make sure its pleanty of time between coats or it will cloud like that :( i like to give it like 15min dry time between coats...... ya it takes alot longer BUT its beter than wasting a whole day of work and having to redue it all :(

That may not help. I've spray painted a lot of pieces and with rattle can clear it doesn't always give a deep glossy look. On my door handle pieces its really glossy but it changed the grey paint color to darker. On my other parts it didn't change the color but it didn't give me near the gloss. Cloudiness occurs often no matter the wait either. I let some stuff i did sit 48 hrs between coats and it still clouded.

really? so whats the fix?
rattle can clear just can't be used on plastic?
or is it a hit or miss thing?......I was just experimenting with the clear, actually the regular gloss paint that I usually use works and looks fine for me anyway. just wanted to try something different. guess i'll just stick to the paint as i don't want to keep re-doing things over and over again if the clear hazes

Was it a little humid out when you painted?

my bet is you applyied to too thick. i had a spare set of tails i was candying and i cleared them but put it on too thick and it hazed. never ran b/c it was laying flat. just hazed.

you know, it might have been......its really humid in Central AR in the summer, we have the AR river that runs through the city....makes you want to take a shower every time you step out the door....
