Gentlemen (and ladies),
MY gas needle is doing something odd. When I turn the key to the on position to arm my fuel pump on my 98 Z71 with vortec 350 my gas guage needle jumps from one end of the the guage to the other and eventually settles after a second or two on the amount of gas I have, but it humms on place until I get to about 1/8 of a tank. The guages make no noise at all and the fuel needle is the only one doing this. It actually vibrates back and forth about 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch in place the entire time that truck runs. Could anyone shed some light as to why my guage is doing this? The guage still reads accurately and has never left me stranded with no Gas, but it's rather annoying.

Thanks you in advance,
Yenko

Sounds like your gauge might have gone bad. I'd take it to Chevy and have them look at it. I wouldn't imagine that it would be that costly (if anything at all) for them to look at it and give you an analysis.

Good luck and post a reply if you find out the problem, okay?

Yea I have the same problem I would also like to know what is going on...I think I know what happened to cause it we have a pump for gas at our farm and i started pumping one day with the truck on after a minute i shut the truck off while the pump was still running and everyday after that I have noticed that needle jittering around like yours "sinisterz71" I would really like to know how to fix the problem like he said it gets very annoying

Mine started after I changed my fuel pump. Not immediately, but it was after I replaced it.

Was it a big ordeal or was it a 20 min job replacing the sending unit?

So how does the sending unit make it hop and jump like that?

I'd rather pull my bed than drop my tank.

true! pull the bed, i was just figurally speaking on dropping the tank lol, some bolts and wires to pull the bed, plus you can do a good clean job with it off also
