You might want to check on the silicone sealant. I thought I read somewhere that the silicone sealant gives off fumes and will destroy the subwoofer. Might have been on one of the stereo sites.

yea I think I heard that somewhere also, but it may have been for a different type of sealant.
Hey quad... off topic, but I was wondering how your interior is holding up with the krylon fusion and SEM. I ripped out my interior except for the dash and layed down some raamat, put my new carpet in, and I am now about to paint. I bought some SEM, but I am debating whether to use the krylon fusion on the plastic since you seemed to like it better..

I'm pleasantly surprised. It's holding up great. It has been through a 2000 mile move and one break in. I had to touch up a few spots, but it blended nicely. I'm very happy with it. Remember to clean the plastic really well. Clean it with something like simple green to get rid of diirt and grime and then wipe it down with paint thinner. Then light coats and I left mine sit for a week before I installed it.

im having a hard time getting the plywood to bend around the top. im gonna soak it in water for a while and then try it again.
its not gonna be molded into my dash its just gonna be set in there.
thanks for compliments guys

one side is longer than the other and you have a pink phone:D

ya one sides longer due to the heater box.... ;) took me a sec to figure that out to.
just dont use MDF.... ya soaking it with any water and it will just fall apart!!!!! :(
if ur realy fiberglass scared then get a bunch of strips, then bondo and with a hand sander just go at it ;)
tho with mine in not worried about air leaking since mines just a console to hold stuff not subs ;)

Lookin good, cant wait to see the finished product.
BTW, did your truck get so hot the temp gauge burst into flames? or is that just the angle making it look like that? :mexsmoke:

ACTUALY NO.........
everyone should know when mdf gets wet it brakes apart and makes it realy brittle. cause it doesnt just sheet off the mdf it soaks right into the edges like a spounge :(
ive had pleanty of boxes fall apart that way with just a little water geting onto them! and also the water will soak into the top and buble it up like a mofo..
you can try it go right ahead.... but from my experiences a simple spilled glass of water or condensation off the side of the glass will soak right into the mdf and then bubbling up the mdf.... do your own experiment before ya put alot of time into trying it!
just glass over the top and call it a day.

im not using mdf around the top. im using some thin quality plywood.
a new problem ive ran into now is that the box is too narrow for the subs i got. new plan is to just make to top rounded but i have no idea how to go about it.
using curved pieces of metal would make it have what looked like ribs when the material was stretched over it. or i could just make it flat with the plywood?
im not selling my factory console either cause ill put it back in when i sell the truck sorry

well if your console is alittle to thin.... i got a fix for ya... curve both of them angled. like sideways... that will give ya about a inch or so.... i did it with my old 18XXX box i had in my old jimmy.
OR just downgrade the subs to a smaller version :(

before i even read your post a couple days ago i thought of this. have each one pointing towards the driver and passenger sorta angled up.
