Hey, I'm planning to swap my moonies for the newer style. I think I've read most of the guides and threads about it, and I have one question. I'm using car-part.com to find a cluster and there are two similar options, gas w/tach one with ID 16140115 and the other with 16140105.

I'm guessing the 115 is a v8 and the 105 is a v6, but I'm not sure?

Would a v6 cluster work in a v8, I've seem to remember somebody saying it would? Can anybody shed some light? Thanks.

To my (limited) knowledge, the V6 cluster will work in a V8 truck but the red-line on the tach will differ.

Are you trying to add...oh say 93 or 94 guages to a 88-90ish truck?

Exactly... well 91-94 gauges.

What is the redline difference between the v6 and v8?

i do not think the v6 tach will work on a v8. the readings would be differnt, this is why aftermarket tachs have a slecter switch for number of cylinders.

if you read the entire thread at the tech article about the swap. you can see that theres a guy that put a v6 cluster into a v8 post number 196 & 197, done with the change of a cap. check it out you gonna get all the answers there .

For me it was 1 hour of work and maybe this can help you out to reduce some of that time.
-cut the conector from the junkyard as long as you can
-i got my dash off and was really easy to work with
-you can put your drac just under your steering wheel for easy acces if you need to change something at the dip switch
-check the drac jumpers (before soldering dip swthc) and compare the values to the ones in the table if it have the same values you'll be a lucky guy with no future problems soldering the dip switch. also if it's almost the same like one jumper off instead on you can remove it and you'll be set.

my cluster is 16140278 printed on the board out of a v8, works great.let me know if you need something else.

good luck
