Im pretty sure this Question has been asked a million times.

I Want to upgrade the Dash in my 88 Chevy 1 ton Dually, But to be honest i can not find an faces or anything just direct replacments. Can my turck except other clusters. I am Really Feeling the Esky clusters, but will it fit? and if so is there a special place that will install it for me, Wiring is all nutz to me! lol My current cluster i belive is the moon style, and the odomoter does not evan work anymore .

So Suggestion would greatly help!

The Esky cluster will NOT fit at all unless you heavily modify your dash, ECU, etc. and probably isn't worth the effort.

I'm also interested in some sort of mod to make our 88-94' clusters look a little more custom (e.g. Esky 3D-ish). I have not found anything other than the standard white face gauge replacements.

Any ideas??

A 94 cluster is not a direct replacement...
See this thread from the "Tech Articles":

If you can find a cluster from a late 91 it is a lot easier install. The cluster and the plug will bolt right in but you will have to switch some wires around in your plug on the truck and run a tach wire.

Also, you can get the white faces for your moonies.

They do look better than the current ones but for the money you could buy a cluster from a 91 with a tach, switch a couple of wires around and have a really nice set up.

Hey Ray ~ How's everything? I like your new sig :rocking:

I was checkn' out your truck pics a few weeks ago and noticed your new steering wheel, very nice!!! Is it genuine leather wrap? If so, do you know what it came out of? I just learned that the Lumina mini van (pre airbag) has a nice one too. I'm thinking of going on another "wheel hunt"

Might be just me, But i liek the white faced better, the one with the tach just looks stock, sure everything is swithed around. Beatuy is in the eye of the beholder I guess!

Hey Kevin,
Actually I think it is the same wheel that you have, mine came out of a Z-24 Cavalier I just dyed the spokes and the base part of the wheel black to match the steering column.

I wish it was leather but it's not, it's simulated leather but I really like the feel of the wheel over stock.

Very true, and the white face is definately an improvement over stock.

Actually on mine, I searched for almost a year and found a cluster from a 91 454SS.
110mph speedo and the tach goes to 6k

Now while i was on ebay looking for a new cluster i came across this

Cluster (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-to-91-Chevy-Truck-Instrument-Cluster_W0QQitemZ7999437730QQcategoryZ33675QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

The moonies seem to be LED or something similar to that. Does anyone have this style? Will it work on on what that has the analog style? also Does it light up green or can you change the color?

Thanks!

Thanks! That cluster is out of an 88’ and it’s not LEDs. It’s just a clear & striped cover over the white that makes it look that way. Look at Lowdown’s ‘white face moonies’ pic above, that one is from model years 1989 through 1991 (doesn’t have the little lines that make it look like LEDs). It does light up greenish-blue.

Well im down with screwing with this today, Ill drive it to work torn apart and minus a speedo, and i think i am goign to need a new Oil pressur gague if you are supposed to stick the white face directly over the Black stock then I do need a new one. Are you spposed to remove the black Stock? Also these do light up in Blue right, i cant imigane how with that grren plastic back there. I must say i am very dissaopinted with this this should have been stright foward, But the directions that came with the Gagues dosnt evan apply to trucks. This is becoming a hassle and a half.

It's been a couple of years or better since I had those gauges in my truck so I don't really remember if I removed the old faces or not. I don't think I did but I will go out in the garage and take it apart and see if I can tell.
I will take some pictures of it and maybe you can tell from them.

From looking at mine it doesn't look like I took the old face off, it looks like it just went over the top of the old one.

As far as your speedo, it sounds like a clearance problem.

Also, I trimmed mine so that it wasn't white over the warning lights above the temp and fuel guages and below the ampmeter, it just didn't look right to me.

I'm not really looking to sell mine but if you can't get it to work I would sell it to help you out.

Not quite sure what little wire you are talking about. Mine has the main wiring plug in the back - see photo.

Finally got that black cap on and as for the speedo, it was a clearnece problem, made a little tweak to it and it started right up. Got all the gagues in and it looks clean now. I see I think I am going to have to put in Brighter lights, Blub wise, or get some bright blue and get rid of that greenish blue look. As for that cable i read in the shop manuel that there is a speedo cable you unhook, i looked back and it was for the Astro van (DOOH) As i looked closer at the little cable in the back it is hooked up to the gear Indicator, IE (P N R D 2 1). But anyways everything is in and runs and looks Quite well to might taste so im Happy.

Thanks for your help. Last night I started to panic, seeing i had to go to work with all kinds of wires hanging out, ( Radio, HVC, Light switch Etc.) and no Speedo to top it all off. Thanks LowDown you the MAN!!!!

ill post some pics but they look exactly as yours! LOL

No, all you will have to do is switch a few wires on the plug in your truck and you will probably have to run a wire for the tach (if your new cluster has one).

No, if you find a 91 cluster you don't need the DRAC. All wou will need to do is move some wires around and hook up a wire for the tach.

Move B15 to B11,
Move A10 to A9,
Move A11 to A10.
You will need a wire and pin assy. to plug into B15 for the tach.
Route a long wire through the firewall to the coil for tach sense pick-up. Hook this wire to the one you added to pin B15.

The plug is numbered 1-17. Face the plug with the female ends facing you and the round alignment pins to the top and B1 will be on the left of the plug.
