View Full Version : Will a 97 chevy c/k dash fit a 95 with no problems? texascwby76063 09-06-2005, 05:53 PM Does anyone know if I can put a dash out of a 97 chevy full-size into a 95 easily. I'm going to be doing the 97+ dash swap into a 95-96 whenever it comes in. I'll let you know how it goes and take pics and try to do a write up on it providing I have enough patients. kdubaz 09-07-2005, 10:18 AM Depends on your definition of "problems." I just did a swap of a 96 dash (airbag) into a 95, and it sucked. We had a lot of work to make the venting fit right around the wiring. It sucked, but we made it work. 99-2door 09-07-2005, 11:03 AM :word: providing I have enough patients. Are you a doctor or what? oldred95 09-07-2005, 03:36 PM Are you a doctor or what? I never can remember how its spelled so I just put a word down that makes sense and let you guys try and desifer it. Now try and figure that out. oldred95 09-07-2005, 06:19 PM I got my new dash today but now I have a question. kdubaz, I noticed that there is a sort of metal frame work around the air bag opening that goes down to the latch for the glovebox and there are two holes where it bolts back behind where the air bag would go. Can you tell me if the two holes that I need are already there since I can not see far enough up under the dash to tell whether they are there or not? kdubaz 09-07-2005, 07:26 PM Well I don't know if you're trying to bolt an airbag in there or not. On the truck I did, we kept the hole where it was, and it bolted up in the factory locations normally. The main pain is getting the wiring around the ducting -- that sucked. oldred95 09-07-2005, 07:32 PM Well I don't know if you're trying to bolt an airbag in there or not. Maybe I'll have to take a pic of it tomorrow to show you what I mean. I'm not trying to put an air bag in it, I hate those things. What I mean is there are two bolt holes back in the hole where the air bag would go. Is there a place for these two bolts already there or am I gonna have to fab up something? 99-2door 09-07-2005, 10:10 PM Maybe I'll have to take a pic of it tomorrow to show you what I mean. The 97-up dash has a support on the passenger side that the 95-96 don't have. The 97-up cabs have studs welded into the firewall and the firewall is shaped differently where the support bolts onto it. The bracket bolts to those studs and then bolts run up through it into the nuts that are under the airbag. Just leave that support off and you will never know the difference. Sounds like they didn't give you the bracket anyway. Did you get a pocket from a 3500 to go in the air bag hole or you gonna put something custom in there? oldred95 09-07-2005, 10:13 PM I know what you are talking about. I don't want this damn thing breaking out on me like the last one. That dash pocket is 43 bucks from mark. I'm just gonna make some sort of cover out of oak and put in there for now. 496-TKO 09-07-2005, 10:27 PM where did you find a dash?? I want to upgrade my 92 to a 95 up texascwby76063 09-08-2005, 01:20 AM where did you find a dash?? I want to upgrade my 92 to a 95 up Found my dash on Ebay. it is brand new for 125 shipping was 50. Only thing is I have to paint it to match. No big deal though. texascwby76063 09-08-2005, 01:24 AM I got my new dash today but now I have a question. kdubaz, I noticed that there is a sort of metal frame work around the air bag opening that goes down to the latch for the glovebox and there are two holes where it bolts back behind where the air bag would go. The 97' have a reinforcment bar that this bracket bolts to. If you have a fax machine I can send you a diagram from Chevrolet it is very good detail. I got alot of ideas from it. I'm going to change everything so it looks like a 97' except for putting in an airbag. I don't sit over there so what do I care. Changing the cigarette lighters and everthing else I can. oldred95 09-08-2005, 07:27 AM Yeah it is a bracket that you don't need. The 97' have a reinforcment bar that this bracket bolts to. What else is different from the 95 to 97 other then the dash? texascwby76063 09-08-2005, 01:45 PM I can figure it out. I would really like to use that bracket over there though if at all possible. What else is different from the 95 to 97 other then the dash? there isn't alot changing except for the cigarette lighter/power supplies for cell phones, radar detectors, etc. Also the instrument cluster is different. It goes to 130mph. I like the ashtray setup because you do not have to have the ashtray down to use the power supply like in 95-96 models. oldred95 09-08-2005, 05:20 PM there isn't alot changing except for the cigarette lighter/power supplies for cell phones, radar detectors, etc. Also the instrument cluster is different. Maybe I am wrong but I am pretty sure the 97-00 gauge clusters only go to 100 mph, and I thought the ash tray/cig lighter outlets were the same as well. Maybe I thought wrong. 99-2door 09-08-2005, 06:58 PM Only 95s have the cig-lighter ash tray that you have to pull down to get to the plugs. That assembly can be interchanged between the years. That 130 mph speedo was only in the police Tahoes, the Esclade and Denali had a 120mph one. You will have to reuse your 95 cluster, but it looks nearly the same as the 96-98 one anyway. Only the tach looks different. oldred95 09-08-2005, 07:05 PM Only 95s have the cig-lighter ash tray that you have to pull down to get to the plugs. Yea I know I will have to reuse everything and luckily all of the stuff being reused is in like new condition. The cig lighter location doesn't make a chit to me because I'm going to be making a full length center console pretty soon and it will have outlets in it anyway. texascwby76063 09-14-2005, 05:57 PM Yea I know I will have to reuse everything and luckily all of the stuff being reused is in like new condition. Im having a custom seat put in my truck. Im getting rid of the crap ones that they came with OEM. So I am going to change to the new astray/cigarette lighters because they look better. The dash is being painted today. vBulletin® v3.8.2, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
