the painted dash piece looks good, you did a good job on the needles.. there just not too much my thing. It might look better to me in the dark though.. That cubby comes in handy.. on my 02' cc HD it has it and i always throw my cell in there while it's charging.. handy little place, my 02' ext. doesn't have it (yet).

I think you need to get out of my head man...there's only room in here for me....I went with white needles instead of clear with the blue LED's though.

Mine's actually graphite (DARK), but for some reason the digital washed out the colors. I think it looks good, but of course I would.

How did you go about getting them off? Do you have to mark where they were or do you just pop them back on? What did you use to sand them? Sorry for all the question I just think that mod looks really good and i would like to do it to my truck.

well i took the dash apart then while the guage is still plugged in and the car is off i made a mark and then also another mark when the car was turned on. the needles just pull strait off. i donno what grit i used but it comes off pretty easy and i used a knife to scratch off the orange on the inside edge where the sandpaper cant go

Looks very nice! I like the cubby a lot. Much better than the do-nothing block out plates and bag switch.

Ok, this may be a completely stupid question, but, how did you replace the lights with blue ones? I have taken my cluster apart to do the exact same thing and the lights look like they are soldered on the circuit board? I also haven't seen (maybe I didn't look good enough) the bulbs that are in the cluster. By the way I think the dash looks sweet. Thanks!

what'd you use to clear your needles? I was thinking of some paint thinner or lauquer thinner...

I don't know about him, but I scraped the paint off with a razor blade, then wetsanded the backs and painted mine white.

My HD doesn't have that cubby hole. Where did you move the airbag switch too?

ianbroste

ill try to answer all the questions.

the bulbs are not soldered into the board they are in these twist lock sockets taht come out of the board. you have to buy new twist locks and bulbs since the stock ones are soldered together. i used the twist locks from ford i got the number off this link

http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24726&page=1&pp=25

to clear the needles i just used some sand paper to get most of it off then a razor blade to scratch off where the sandpaper wouldnt get. the part tha was close to the black mounting part i used the razor blade.

i just took the airbag switch turned it on and shoved it back into the dash and ziptied it up so it wouldnt move around.

That's nice, i was wondering how well do the needles light up at night without paint on the back of them, i mean does it light up all the way to the tip or is it just hear the middle?

Ok, so from what I've read after searching the site, no one has done this on an '05? I don't see any of the things on my cluster that are described in the "how to" thread. Is there not a way to change the bulbs on the 2005's? Thanks!

the needles still light u pretty good with the stock lights, and cleared needles, i used a razor blade, and sand paper, the paint comes off pretty easy, and i painted the back of mine silver, and they came out pretty good.
