I Think the motor went on my driver's window

On my way home from work, I had my windows open, went to close it and it doesn't go up :help: It has done this in the past, but after a couple of minutes, it would go up no problem, not today. I take the door panel off, hubby takes out his multipurpose voltmeter tool and finds that there is power going to the wires, so it must be the motor. (mind you, when I pulled the switch plate off of the door, there was a bit of smoke - figures :( ) So he takes the cover off the motor and pieces fall out after he removes the motor after he twists it to put the window back up.

My question is, how difficult is it to replace this motor? I'm really not looking forward to is since it looks like the inner door panel is riveted in place and/or the bolt heads that hold it in place look to be attached to the window itself - is this correct? Anyone have really good detailed instructions before we just dive into it after I get the part?!

i bought window motor and regulator from CK Resto and replaced both sides. just followed the instructions they sent with it, it was pretty simple. the most time consuming piece was drilling out all the rivets. i replaced mine using bolts instead of rivets in case i ever have to do this again.

you had to drill out the rivets, huh? :( Ugh, not looking forward to that, but if it's the only way.... thanks for the heads up :D

Annie I wish that I had more info for you. It should not be that hard. I would plan taking a day to replace taking your time.

it is not that bad really, just the time it takes drilling all the rivets and then getting the right bolts. you'll have to rivet the black control houseing plate or use sheet metal scres for that, bolts are to big and you can't get the control bezel back on.

I haven't did this in a few years but the complete inner door panel comes out, but you have to have somone holding the window up when you do it, or it will fall down and break:eek:....or you can tape it up real good if you're on your own....once the panel is out you have access to it....it's pretty easy after the rivets are drilled out:D

Stupid question, but if the window is stuck down........can you still get to all the bolts to loosen the window from the down position?

yes, mine was stuck down and I had no problems getting everything off...
