View Full Version : Options for a reg cab?

I should be getting a 1994 Regular cab silverado here soon. I can't remember if it has th 305 or the 350, both are bigger than what I have. It's a step up from my 2001 Caviler by quite a bit I'd say.

Since this is the interior forum I'll keep my questions on that area.

I'd rather have digital gauges, are they possible to install on a 94?

I want to explore the option of an electric sun roof. My main concern is if it would feel/flow right with the reg cab? I know they work well in SUV's and ext cabs, but I'm curious at how they'd be in single cabs. Does anyone have a picture of a sunroof in a single cab? Also, can anyone recommend a good sliding sunroof?

When I put in my sound system I'm worried about sub placement. As of now the truck has the bench seat, but I'd really rather convert to the two seat/console setup. In either application how could I go about getting two 8-10 inch subs in? If I stay with the bench how much clearence does it have? Does anyone here have a sound system in a regular cab? Very tricky it seems.

How about the headliner mounted things. I'm at a lack of words to call them, my dad's F-150 has it with the compass and temp in it. I love those things, and could I just grab one from a scrap yard off a late modle chevy and mount it up or does it have to be run through the computer? I'm hoping it's a completely independent system.

Also, are the dashes from any new years fittable to the 94'? Are the demintions that different from an 05 and the 94?

Thanks guys. I'm sorry for the post being so blatent and filled wit errors, for give me and my fatigue.

I'm hoping it's a completely independent system. The compas & temp units are self sustaining and do not require the use of the truck's computer. None of the FSCs come with that kind of unit such as your Dad’s (e.g. overhead console with the compass & temp display), only the S10 models come with that.

However, you could go with this type of unit (see pic). This one is a Gentex, the same maker as you would see in factory vehicles. You can get these off ebay or do a google search for ‘compass temp mirror’. It just requires power, ground, wiring the temp sensor behind your grill and possibly dome light power. Mine has map lights that come on when the door is open or you can turn them on with the little buttons on either side of the mirror.

you can fit 2 10's behind the seats easily. especially if you get buckets. i am pretty sure that a 99+ overhead console will fit, but as faR AS the electronics go, i am not so sure.

Well I'm either doing the Sunroof/rear view mirror combo, or just the overhead console. On the sun roof I believe I might just go with a manual slider since it's easier/cheaper/less breakable than the electric, and it's really no hassle to reach up and slide the roof back. It's not like I'm in an Escalade or a Durango... just the tiny reglar cab. I read up on it and I should be easy as pie to get it installed, I just need to find someone that has a saw-zaw, because those things just kick ass. And pretty much just me being too cheap to throw down another 2-4 hundred to let some guy do it right XD.

Also, I'm looking for seats such as this http://tinyurl.com/8qu24 . I might actually go with those, they are leather and only 800 or so. if I did that I think I could mount two 10's or 12's behind the center console so the subs are open, or should I just stick to those that are behind the two seats?

I'm a tall, long legged guy, 6'1", most of it in my legs, so moving the seat forward is NOT a viable option. I'd possibly be interested in doing the sub box set up that extends a bit into the bed. I'd want the outer of it to be sheet metal for saftey, welded in of course. This doesn't impose a great problem because mine will be 2wd, and I wouldn't offroad with those miles anyway. I know a few of you here have had it done and I'm interested in it. I'd deffinatly throw in a shallow depth cross tool box to conceal the enclosure a bit, and for practality of course.

On gauges I didn't mean completely digital, I just meant the odometer and such. Is there a way to start off a digital odometer at say 200k miles? I may be weird, but I'd like to know how many miles are actually on the beast when it craps out. Are there replace ment gauges like this? Has anyone done a roller to digial od gauge conversion? Also, I'd love to have the red lighted gauges, as the pontiac grand am/prixs. I assume that's as easy as chaning the bulb/putting in an LED or two?

I'm sure I haven't completed everything I wanted too but this covers basses untill tomorrow doesn't it?

Thanks again guys.

I like your seat selection! :cheer:

I know that the older S10's and Astro vans had a digital display option. If you can find one of those, maybe you could retro fit it somehow. Not sure about adjusting the mileage though...

Welp, I think I'm going to slap in a 96' dash as it get compeltely away from the lego look, and is nice and curvy. I think I'll do the dashpad in the same color leather as the seats...

As far as seats go, you can get some leather camaro seats for $100. They bolt up very easily and they look great/are cheap.

good thing about the set I selected is that it comes with the two seats AND the console, all color matching and I can get it in the color I want.

Oh, and all those dashes were fugly, The 96 dash is more astheticly pleasing in my opinion.

Oh, another question. If I dont go with a sunroof and with the overhead console... Could I just slap one in from a Ford F-150? I Love the overhead in my fathers 2000 F-150.
