I was looking for some extra power points and found that GM was nice enough to run the power wire to my drivers seat (I don't have power seats) but not my passenger seat. Any idea why they would do one but not the other?

If anyone needs seat adjustments it's the driver...since passengers don't have pedals they have to reach there is really no need for adjustments beyong the manual ones.

He said he doesn't have power seats, therefor it leads me to imagine that the wire you think is a PWR is actually a GRND. Have you verified that it is infact a PWR wire?

Yes, both power and ground are in the drivers side and neither in the passenger side.

My truck, non power seats, has the wiring under the carpet, so does my brothers 98, and my dad's 94. The harnesses are standard for the most part and just the option package of the truck determines what will be used. It's just a power and ground as you stated but it's purpose is to run power seats.

Correct, plus on X-cab trucks it's alot quicker to get in w/ a manual seat.

The thing that seems odd to me is they would run the power wire to the driver seat only to leave it unused but not run it to the passenger seat. Why have two that many different wiring harnesses?
Anyway I stuck and extra 12v jack on the back of my seat because its a lot neater tohave the cord to my cell phone laying between the seats rather than strung out from the dash and was just going to use those power connections from the seats when i found that one was wired and one wasn't I found it very odd.

Can you even get dual power seats on a pickup? I've only seen them on SUVs.

Hmm, that would have made sense, but I guess not. It seems silly to have a harness with power to one and not the other. I would think they could have ran a harness with no power wires to the trucks without power seats and then if a truck got one or more power seats run the dual power wire harness, that way they just have two harnesses instead of three.

I think 03 maybe 04-up no LS trucks have power passenger seats, only LTs.
The seat harness plugs in near the driver's side sill plate.
It simply saves several feet of wire and connections to have those 2 short little harnesses different.
The non-power seats still have to have the plug on the driver's side for the seatbelt light, so it my not be worth it to have 3 different harnesses, only 2.

Doesn't really make a difference now that they have quarter doors, but on the OBS ext. cabs, yes.

On mine (04) the seat harness plugs into the mbec and goes through the drivers side sill plate up under the drivers seat then splits and goes into the drivers seat plug and over the hump to the passenger seat so they have to have two complete different harnesses because the passenger seat power plugs into a different pin in the mbec, very strange. So if I want power I have to unwrap the whole harness and run the missing wire.

On the trucks with only one side power seat the driver gets it because that is usually the one making the payments. Like air bags when they only did the driver's side.

But why have three harnesses? Just make one harness without power, and one with instead of one with power to just one and then stick that one in a truck with no power seats.

Just cruised ebay. I saw many, many 03-05 silvys withOUT the power passenger seat. In fact, I saw only ONE that did. An '03 1500HD LT. Trucks from 00-02 had about a 50-50 mix of p.p.s.
Interesting. Never noticed that. I don't think I would have looked for that, maybe even in a new truck if we had gone that way. My wife and the kids use it all the time though. If we ever purchase a newer one, I'll have to remember to look for that.
