Hello All,
I have a 1991 Chevy C1500 Ext w/ 5.7L and the ugly Moon Gauges w/o Tach and I have found a 1991 Gauge Cluster w/tach (Needle type) so my questions is are these a direct swap and if not does anyone know what is need to do the swap?
Thanks

You need to swap a few of the wires around. I cant find the link I used to have to do this. As well youll need to run a wire for the tach. Ive done 4 of these now and it took me maybe 30 mins the first time. If i come across the link ill be sure to post it, good luck

If you're staying the same year of cluster, it SHOULD be a direct swap; all you should have to do is run a wire for the tach. You usually start running into problems only when you're using a different year model cluster.

No there IS a swap involved. Speaking from experience. I did one in my 88 and one in my buddies 91, using a 91 cluster. The plugs are the same but the wiring is not. Im presuming just becuase of the difference in moonies and needle types.
If your truck was needle type it would be plug and play with the exception of running a tach wire.

I thought the '92's and later didn't need all the extra work; only the 91's and older needed all the crap. You ARE working with a '92, right?

Well if you need the information about the wiring for it.

You are correct -- 92+ is plug and play. I yanked the tach unit out of my totaled 92 and swapped it into my current 92. The totaled truck goes to the boneyard with just the standard speedo-only cluster :D
The original poster is doing this in a 91 so he'll have to run a tach wire.
