I can't stop with the interior LEDS!!!!

This weekend I added a led behind each door handle....I think they turned out nice, what do you think? I have them wired to a switch and a relay so I can turn them on and off when I want to.

:rocking: That looks great. Keep in mind that you might have trouble if the cops see the blue lights. I know that they do not like them in Honolulu.

I found a 3 pack at Autozone for about 8 dollars. They come prewired with a power(with resistor) and a ground....they also have a small plastic housing so you just drill the hole and they snap into place.

I saw them in red, blue, and green.

Keep in mind that you might have trouble if the cops see the blue lights. thats why I have them wired up to a switch in the ash tray.....I can cut them on and off when I want. Plus my brouther is a cop and he has alittle pull if I need it.

So this is an easy DIY install for us non-electricians(no soldering/pcb's). Where did you pull power from??

I usually don't like the LED mods but this one is pretty subtle and looks good!

That looks kick a$$. I was trying to do the same thing on mine, but I had those Varad ILK leds, they're pretty hard to mount under there without being prone to someone's fingers knocking 'em off. So you got those one's from AutoZone eh? I might try them. What did you do with the third LED? Again, that looks sweet!!!!

I thought it was easy.....getting the switch and relay wired up was the hard part.
here is a site that expalins relays http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/relay.html

here is a link to more details on how I wired this up....there is alittle more to it than hooking up the red power wire and the black ground
http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46090&highlight=leds+cupholder

Yep, I found them at Autozone and I still have the third one .....probably gonna mount it in the center console somewhere.

I mounted the led in the door handle trim....it almost fit perfect but after testing it I noticed it didn't want to fit flush so I cut a small groove in the hard plastic door bucket to make it fit flush. You cannot even see it unless you squat down and look up and under the pull handle.

Very cool and original idea. I think you may have added another "to do" on a lot of people's lists... :mexsmoke:

are you having problems getting the trim piece off of the actual door handle. The trim piece is held in by 3 clips, one at 12, 3, and 6 o'clock positions. All you have to do is get a flathead screwdriver and slip it in between the hard plastic bucket and the trim piece and press down on the tabs and pull out on the trim.

You will have to take the door panel off to get the bucket and handle out. Then you have to drill a rivit out, slide the door handle back towards the rear and then disconect the rods.

Someone asked what kind of leds I got, well here is a picture of what the led pack looked like. I have seen these at alot of different auto stores in blue, red, and green.

Yeah man, how did you run your wires and where did get power from? I wish they had them in white.

Yeah man, how did you run your wires and where did get power from? I wish they had them in white.

I was going to splice into the wires under the door window trim and use one to the power and grounds from there. That way when I had the headlights on the leds would be on.

Instead I had already hooked up leds in the cupholders the week before so I just tapped into those wires. It wired to a switch(also from autozone) in the ash tray and its connected to a relay(autozone) thats connected to the battery. If you follow the instructions on the back of the packages you will be able to do it.

The "relay" had 4 wires that you need to run..... a ground( ground) , a power(to battery), a switch(connect to switch) and a source(the leds).

The "switch" has 3 wires to connect.... a power(connect to the relay) and ground( ground) and a source( the leds)

The "leds" have 2 wires a ground (ground) and a power( the switch)

I know it sounds very confusing but just pop the hood and connect everything( using the instructions on the back of the packs) with short wires to see how it all works then when you get it right run the wires and reconnect them the same way.

I hope this helps.

Thats a sweet idea! I get so tired of trying to explain to my non gm passengers at night where the door handle is!
And yes I know I shouldn't be friends with non GM owners.:D
