Well,
Iv decided to tint my front windows.
Unfortunitly Im afraid of beeing ripped off by the local guys that do it in this area. So what would a fair price be for 2 front windows done at 20%.
The back glass is already at 20%, so all they have to do is the 2 fronts....

any input?

That's another thing. If they try to charge you more just because you want a darker shade, go find another shop. The price should be the same no matter how dark you want it.

If you're feeling daring, get on eBay and get some pre-cut tint and do it yourself for about $20. I just did this with 20% on the Yukon.

i would be 2 afraid it would start to peel or bubble afterwards though. I know wal mart has sold tint for quite a while, but honestly i would just rather have it done by someone that does it for a living. not that doing it yourself is bad, just i wouldnt do mine.

With a quality film and proper application, that won't be a problem. Wal-Mart films are cheap. If you do get a good application and it doesn't bubble, it'll end up turning purple on you in no time.

Exactly. The stuff I bought is some good quality film and went on really well. I have a couple of bad spots in it, but that's my own fault. I'll pat myself on the back for doing as well as I did on my first try.

I used the Fade Resistant film from AutoZone by Gila. Had a friend help me and it only cost me $30 for the entire truck, including the eyebrow. I know, I know, some folks told me it is a cheaper tint, but the guy at my tint shop only charged me $25 for a 4ftx7ft piece of %20 for the windshield, so I figured what the hell. The Gila is 2ftx6ft for $15, so its not too far off price wise.

Turned out great. Highly reflective, next to no bubbling, and its still black after a few months. I guess I'll find out soon enough if it starts purpling on me. The other reason, besides cost, that I did it myself is b/c nobody around here will lay 2.5 down on any vehicle and they refused to put an 11 inch eyebrow on it. So I kinda had no choice, unless I paid out the a-- after shop hours.

You know, whenever I have illegal tint jobs done it's always cost me less when I have a pro do it because they're doing it under the table and they just pass it along to me at their normal rate, but I don't pay sales tax.

That sucks for me, lol. They told me that they could do it 'after hours' with no receipt. I was fine with that until the price was given to me.

It cost me $125 (which seemed a lil bit high to me) to tint my reg cab S10 w/ the 3 piece rear window and they laid 20 down on the front, an eyebrow (that I took off later) and 5 down on the rear. They turned the 2.5 into an after hours job at a lil higher price, so I figured I'd do it myself.

And I still can't find a place to do my windshield in 30% for under $100.

If you get the tint on the windsheild below the AS1 line or longer than 5"s if the glass don't have an AS1 line than you won't be able to pass inspection. You can usually get away with the darker tint on the windows and still pass. When I inspected cars I would never pass the windsheild tint if it wasn't legal, neither would anyone else I knew. The inspectors name is on that sticker and the fine and chance of losing their state card is not worth passing windsheild tint that is so obviously illegal. Just my thoughts...

Around here, I find it's exactly the opposite. They'll usually let the windshield slide if it's a couple inches low, but they won't let the sides go. The same goes for my experiences with cops too. They're totally concerned with the sides being too dark. They'll usually mention the windshield being low, but that's about it.

I've never had a problem with inspection or cops with my tint.

Front sides - 20%
Eyebrow - 20% and 2-3" below the AS1 line on the sides / middle is even with the center rearview mirror

out here in the bay area, my body got his 4 door maxima done with 5% all around and a 7" eyebrow for 220 bucks. my ex got her new envoy's front 2 windows 20% for 65 bucks and i did my whole truck 5% all the way around for 65 bucks in louisiana years ago (i knew the guy) he did the old accord for 60 bucks all 5 windows, and i have no bubbles, no purple effect. i've tinted cars before, it's not too hard as long as you know what you're doing and you get some quality tint. good luck.

$65 sounds good for side windows, I thought it was higher, I'm gonna get mine done now even though I just got a fix it ticket for side window tint in my Camaro - oh well - it's worth it. First tint ticket in 2 yrs rolling with it so I just hope it doesn't start raining tickets now. The fine is 133.25 or 10 if I fix. I need to find someone to sign this **** off

ummm...Sure. That's why I've had so many tint tickets that I can't even count.

You get a ticket. You pay the fine. Now it's time to wait for your next ticket. Previous tickets do not grant immunity. The only safe way to avoid a ticket is to have legal tint.

Trust me. It has crossed my mind many, many times. The Texas tint regulations even state that a vehicle registered out of state doesn't have to comply with Texas tint regulations. I'd love an Oklahoma registration. That would get me by Texas tint laws. OK cops really don't jack with you for tint either, so I'd be safe there. OK has no front plate and no inspections either, so no state stickers on the windshield.

I just don't have anyone I could use for an address up there.

now are those prices the same if youve already got tint on your windows?

i need to redue my front side windows cause when i painted my truck i missed some spots with the tape and the paint got onto my tint :(

im not sure how much they would charge to remove them and then retint them alittle darker...

i want 15-20% on the front side windows and 5% on the rear side windows then 15-20% tint on the back glass.... BUT also do they charge MORE if ya have a 3 piece window?
i know i can do the rear and side windows FINE BUT the front side windows i want done by a PRO!!!!! just because those windows move the most with my power windows and for as much as i go thru drivethru. ;)
and the side windows are praety flat which should be easy enough to do :D

just wondering how much cash i could save if i remove myself... but if its no more than 15-20bucks ill just let them mess with it!

I always go to the same guy to tint my cars, because he's the ONLY guy in town that could do my vette's rear window in ONE PIECE. He said he could tint all the windows in the 'hoe for $150...which I can't wait to get done!
On another note, I used that Wal-Mart tint on my 75's solid rear window when I put it in...I did it myself, and it's been on for about a year and a half and it sits out in the sun 100% of the time, and it still looks as good as when it was new (the tint I mean). I put the 2.5% on it.
Tinted windows should be everyone's FIRST mod to your car!

I'm all for it. The back window of my truck is 2 layers of 5%. At one time Kyle had double 5 on his back window and 5 and 35 layered on his doors. Combined with the 5% windshield, that was one dark bitch! :rocking: But, yeah, go for it!

Pros:
You can get in-between shades and shades darker than can be purchased.
If you need to strip a layer, the top layer comes off very clean leaving little to no adhesive behind.

Cons:
:dunno:

Double 5 (0.25%) on the back window of my truck and 5% on the doors with no reverse lights. I just roll down the windows and tap the brake lights to light up behind me. Works just fine.

On the Yukon with 5 on top of the factory 20 (1%) on all rear windows and 5% on the front doors. I've never had to even roll the windows down at night when backing. The reverse lights work just fine for me in this case.

the audio/tint shop i worked for used llumar as well. lifetime warranty. and to those seeking a strip/retint, add anywhere from $10-$30 extra per window for removal. **** ain't always easy to do! especially rear windows with defoggers and impossible to remove tint. sometimes you lose your defroster in the process. sometimes windows need to be soaked in an ammonia/water mix and and black bagged and left in the sun to remove it. smelly fun there.

5% of 20%. In Mathematics, "of" means multiply.

Hey brutha, can you get a picture of that? That's the EXACT setup I'm doing.. 5% over the factory 20% on all rears, then 20% on the front doors.

Here is a pic of mine, the only thing thats different is it has 2 layers of tint on the front windows (20% & 35%)

As for tint prices around here, the twin cities, most places charge ya $100-125 for just 2 front drs :gone2far:

I usually go to a place in Little Canada called Sun Control, i have known a few of the people there for about 10 yrs. He will always give me a discount but its still too much ...haha
