I'm about to start sanding down the interior pieces...spent about an hour ripping every plastic piece out of my 91 ext cab....Ive been told by many people to use a catalyst primer then sand...they say itll cut down sanding by houuurs...still have to sand but not nearly as much. So who has done this?? Was it easier then sanding everything by sanding then primering, then sanding agaain?

heres what i did:

First I sanded everything (plastic) with 100-150 grit disks and a DA or orbital. I got as much texture out of the plastic as I could.

Then i followed up with 220 grit and just smoothed out what I could with that grit.

Next, I cleaned the parts up with wax and grease remover and put on a few coats of filler primer. The filler primers are thick and will fill in alot of imperfections that you didnt sand out.

After the primer coats were dry, I blocked them wet until I had flat, smooth surfaces. I went from 220 to 400 and then up to 600 grit before I was ready for paint.

but to answer your question directly :D, you can use filler primers to make up for sanding, but it is better to sand as much as you can. You will need several coats of primer to fill the texture. If you wan't to just use primer to fill it all in it will work, but I personally think if you are going to do it at all, you might as well do it right the first time.

Well thats why Im here seeing what people have done...I dont want to waste a bunch of money for primer if I could have spent that money on sand paper LOL

Thanks for your input
