I have a 91 chevy and have seen a few people install a cd player in the dash where the cubby hole is to keep things. they moved that space to where the factory radio is. What is all involved in this? Is it just a matter of moving those two things?

Maybe just pull everything out, and flip it upside down? :dunno:
I have no clue, cause I don't remember what it looks like inside.

You need a kit to install the HU in the dash. The "cubby" where the stock HU is is called a "delete" pocket. Get one from the dealer or ebay.

if you're talking about to hold the cd player in the delete pocket, and i understand everything else right...you can buy a cd dash kit from walmart, bestbuy, ect. just make sure that it fits your vehicle(look on back).

You need this delete, not the one in the center.

You should be able to get the kit at any stereo shop. Comes in differnt colors. Looks like this:

BTW, you can't put a cd player in the center delete that is in there now....not enough room.

Is that why they sell you a whole new dash panel, cause putting the aftermarket HU in the stock one, there isn't room? I was wondering why I had to buy a whole new friggin dash piece.

It's like $15 for that dash kit. No big deal there. You won't be able to fit a new HU in nicely witout it.

Right, just be careful and don't break your A/C vents when you take the old one out and put the new one in boXman.

It's easy to do, I did it last fall in my truck. I bought a black center piece for the dash just like the one in that picture, put the vents in it and put the sleeve for the cd player in it. Then I got a harness for the factory wiring from walmart. It says '88-Up General Motors on it and the brand for both of these parts is Scosche. It also has an antenna adapter. you take out the old head unit and unplug it from the factory radio box. Take out the box and plug the plugs that it was plugged into, into the new harness. Match the wires from the deck to the wires from the harness and plug each side in. Easy as pie. I ordered a pocket for the factory radio on ebay for 15 bucks. I also got new speakers, and I just cut the factory ends off, but at autozone they sell adapters so you don't have to cut the factory wiring. I'll try to find a pic of my install.

Another question, what size speakers are in these trucks? I have a Reg. Cab, btw.

The reg. cab has the same sized speakers as all the others. They are 4x6 inch speakers. I put in some of the cheaper Pioneer speakers for 50 dollars a pair at walmart and they sound great. I highly recommend them. If you have the same speaker grilles as me then you are lucky, because the wrap around trim can be a pain to remove. Mine just have a cover over the speaker.

Thanks for all your help! There's only one size, huh? How many speakers are there? I don't have the truck yet, getting it this coming week.
