I have a 2000 Silverado. Have any of you replaced the lights inside the A/C heater controls? Mine are burnt out so I disassembled the control box and they are soldered to the circuit board. If anyone has fixed this, where did you find the new bulbs to solder in?
Thanks
Dan

i have had the led's replaced. I need another one replaced. It is as simple as unsoldering the led and resoldering the new one in, but i suck at soldering so I have Nick do it.

They are just small 12 volt bulbs, you can get them at radio shack. You can install leds in them, but you will need to install a resistor for the leds and be carefull not to overheat the circuit board otherwise the pads will lift. I just did this on my yukon 2 weeks ago.

do you have some instructions, like what resistors you used and what not?

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to Radio Shack after work today to get the bulbs. I am interested in the LEDs though. Is it easy to figure out which resistor to use with the LED?
Thanks Again

I used a 470 ohm resistor to run 2 blue leds in a series, you can use one with less resistance to make them brghter but then you are looking at a lower lifespan of the leds.

Couldn't you just use a 12v LED? Maybe blue isn't available in 12v but I thought clear was?

There is no such thing as a 12v led, unless there is new led that just came out. The leds that you would be using would range from 2.5-3.5 volts depending on color and type.

Yep, you're right, not sure what I was thinking ???
Any hoo, I replaced a bulb in the heater controls for my pops today, rat shack has a direct replacement.
Next project is the radio. It looked like they had a replacement for most of the radio bulbs but there were 3 bulbs in there that were slightly larger that I didn't see a match for at radio shack.

I found the bulbs at RadioShack, part #272-1154 (12V*50mA Bi-Pin Lamp). Thanks for all the help.

Does anyone know why some of the bulbs have a blue cover over them?

It is used to give a whiter light, just about all the bulbs have a blue cover or the back of the overlays are blue. GM has done this for quite a while.
