i'm modding my a/c controls, putting a blue plexiglass over the green plexiglass and i'm putting the controls in the ashtray. i've gutted the ashtray compartment (pic 1), trimmed down the sides of the a/c control faceplate (pic 2). I'm waiting on the blue plexiglass (2 week wait) and while i'm waiting, i'm finishing up everything else. I need to find some way to bolt the controls in the ashtray compartment. i'm thinkin about using the 2 bolts on the back of the faceplate (pic 3) and using a template and molding the template into the ashtray compartment. Any other ideas?

Sounds like a nice idea, but I am not sure what your trying to show in the pics. Take a few more pics, and I am sure you'll get some help.

What I did with mine was take the controls apart and plastic welded that face in. My controls are now flushed into my 98 style dash and looks super clean. I would post a pic but I get an error message when I try to.

different style dashes though too. i have a 92 style dash, not a 98, and there's a big difference in the controls and the dash.

I did the dash conversion and kept my 90 style gauges. You could basically do the same thing in your ash tray, I think it looks really good having the ac controls flushed in.

I want my controls to be hidden though. I suppose it's just difference in tastes. Plus with the open area next to the gauges I'm planning on a 7" tv or so. But I bet flush mounted a/c controls look good too.

I live in florida, so accessing the ac controls easy and often is a neccesity. Plus on the newer dash there is a lot more room that has to be filled up.

Cold? I dunno about cold, but the heater always works well in our trucks, haha. Anyways, I've been busy, but i'll have the controls mounted this weekend hopefully with more pics..

So I forgot about this thread whenever the plastic shop took three weeks to get the blue plexiglass. The first pic is the idea on what I want to. I still gotta cut out the metal behind the ashtray compartment so i can clear out room for the a/c controls. the second pic shows the the new display screen.

so the a/c duct is in my way after i cut out the metal behind the ashtray. i'm thinkin about mounting the controls to the ashtray door and when the door is shut, it goes up through the top of the ashtray so it will fit. any other ideas?

put it in the door panel. when you sit down make it a lil lower then the armrest and angles up at you. fiberglass it in.
