My passenger window quit a couple months ago, so I bought a new regulator off ebay for it. Now that has quit. First time was frayed cables (rust) and haven't looked to see what the problem this time yet.

Anyway.. Those of you that have replaced your regulators, did you go with a new OEM GM one from the dealer $$$ or go cheap like me and get one on Ebay, and how has it worked out for you?

try a junk/salvage yard bro...if not then i would buy a new one from the dealer...it would be worth the headache rather than trying to get a new one every year

The regulator in our Safari went out about two years ago, so I bought a lifetime replacement warranty one from AutoZone.

About a month ago, it quit working, and we now live somewhere where there aren't any AutoZones for several hundred miles.

Spend the extra cash, and get a genuine GM one. They can be a real PITA to replace.

NBS Window regulators are cheap, even from the dealer, and are the easiest to install of any vehicle Ive ever dealt with. I think that theres only 4 or 5 10mm bolts that hold it in once you get the door panel off, and another 2 holding the glass in. Loosen up the glass bolts and slide the window up into the channel and run a long piece of masking tape across the top of the door to hold the glass up and out of the way. Then remove and replace the regulator. Be sure to use a little threadlock on the bolt threads when installing the new one.

I bought an Ebay one. It's been working fine for me for about 4 years. It is noisier than the OEM one, but for a quarter of the price, I can deal with a little noise. If both regulators failed in the same way, may want to check the alignment of the window and/or the tracks.

NBS window regulators are the same things as the power window motors? I'm chevy n00b sorry :(

I'm asking because I'm looking at a 89 chevy 1500 long bed and the driver's side window gets stuck halfway up. It'll go all the way up if you tug on it a bit.

NBS means New Body Style. You have an OBS, with an '89. The regulators normally come with a new motor, but a regulator encompasses basically the frame, cabling, pulleys, motor, harness. It is a really simple fix. The hardest part of the whole job is getting the vapor plastic away from the door panel. I've found working in the morning and a razor blade works well to cut the goop. Other than that, it's just a matter of aligning the window so you can get to the bolts. A rag helps keep the bolts from dropping all the way to the bottom of the door. A RPITA when that happens. I doubt you have a motor problem. More likely the cables are frayed, or the the window track isn't aligned properly. If the rest of the truck is ok, that's not really a deal breaker.

Maybe the window motor burned out, I got one for $60 at Autozone for my old truck (00 silverado)

BTW, the OEM motor was the same manufactor as the Autozone motor. The OEM motor lasted 1.5 yrs.

No sir. The housing was an oem housing that was rebuilt if thats what you really want to call it. Do you really think duralast alternators are built by ac delco?

believe me, putting a regulator in a silverado is NOTHING like putting one in an astro/safari.

The passenger side manual window regulator in my 2003 regular cab Silverado broke about a year ago, and I ended up having to go to the dealership to get it. It cost me over $130.

They ebay one in my driver side door has been going strong for two years now and I use the windows almost every time I drive anywhere. I hate to use the AC

I'd opt to fix/improve the old one. Those cable regulators are brittle pieces of crap anyway. Jeep uses the same thing and they actually put out a bulletin about the weatherstripping pinching the window too tight and causing the plastic cable clamps to snap. I've yet to see one where the actual cable broke, its always the junk little plastic clamps that hold them to the regulator frame. If the motor is burnt up then I'd replace the whole thing, if its just a broken cable clamp why not fix it the right way with this miracle material called steel?

I had a Grand Am with the same regulator designs. They're absolutely worthless. I got my replacements from 1aauto.com. They are supposed to be "better than stock replacements", but they just as crappy as the stock ones. Just a 3rd of the price. Go to Autozone, and get the lifetime warranty. You'll need it.

try an online autoparts store like autopartwarehouse or something (i think thats the site). i replaced my regulator about a year ago in my 02 tahoe and its been workin fine with no problems so far. was really cheap too compared to the stealership. i dont care how oem there stuff is, i would never buy from the dealer unless someone or insurance pays for it.

a-1 cardone sucks i know i put one in and my window was worse off then it was with the half dead oem unit i ended up talking it out and returning it and putting my oem junk back in my truck i hit it a few times and its been like 5 months on it, i think the people at the glass place who put my side window in messed it up by crossing wires... it went up when i pushed down??? maybe it started workin right then it would do it again i change the switch and i continued to do it... you are better off with oem unit

I went to http://www.1aauto.com/ and bought their cheap regulator, it lasted about a year. Went back and bought their better one and it has been working for three years plus.

These regulators are one of the poorest designed parts in these trucks. I bought the lifetime warranty one from Auto Zone. It went out less than 4 months after I installed it. The replacemtn has lasted 2 years so far.

i bought the cheap ebay one when my cable broke. The motor went out about a month later so I swapped motors from my oem assembly and never had another problem with it.
